3B or Fold from the SB? 3B or Fold from the SB?

I was reading in Jonathan's Little recent book - "100 Tips..." that when facing a raise in a cash game you should 3b or fold from the sb because of the rake, but in a tourney you can do more calling because of no rake.

Now, I don't understand the rake part because you only pay rake on hands you win.

I have also seen many good, winning players call from the sb with something they like, but isn't quite good enough to raise, or maybe they want the BB to come along. If a tight player opens from EP, I can see flatting some hands like AQ, KQ, 99 etc. But if the BTN is raising, THEN I can see 3 betting more, but again, I have seen plenty of players flat with some hands here too.

I would also think stack depth would matter here. Deeper stacks, more 3 betting to iso a bad players, etc.

So maybe I will learn more about this as I study, but can anyone expand on this??

On most sites they do NFND... "No Flop No Drop", so hands are not raked unless they go to the flop. This incentivizes 3-betting more than if this was not the case.

That would only make sense if the V will overfold, and people don't fold especially in position.

Playing 3B or Fold from the SB is just a simplification.

Versus UTG min open, SB will actually do as much calling as 3betting even at NL50 rake structure.

Without rake, GTO does more than twice as much calling.

Yes, raise size would matter too, but I'm talking about live poker.

Versus min open yes but 2.5x open and there is very little calls and 3x open is standard live low stakes so you could just 3bet unless there is a weak player in BB so you want to call exploitably to play with him postflop

How large are you 3betting?
Vs
A) 2.5bb rfi
B) 3bb rfi
C) 3.5bb rfi
D) 4bb rfi

I almost guarantee your fold equity is a function of your raise size
