10 handed no limit if you miss your sb 10 handed no limit if you miss your sb

I'm a no limit holdem player and I've thought about this from time to time. It seems to me that the rules regarding missing your sb or missing both the sb and bb dont make much sense.

Its always seemed to me at least to be plausible that if you sat out your bb and sb and posted them both in the CO or sat out just your sb and posted it in the CO it might make up for the fact that you miss your button. Can someone show why this is not the case?

Betting blind is generally bad, and most all players in NL or limit lose money from both blind spots.

Skipping your sb and posting from the CO has a very minor effect.

We pay the same blinds for 8hands per orbit instead of 10, and we lose our most profitable table seat hand. So yeah it definitely costs us money.

We may gain slightly by moving the blinded bet into a good position hand, but the effect is far outwieghed by losing 20% of the hands we can play per blind amount.

Not to mention, if I was to your left, and you were taking this chance, I'd be just dying to play against you with anything the remotely resembles a hand, since I know you will be trying to use your positional cutoff advantage, and opening your range. Your advantage is not only lost, but it will backfire since you are forced to play more, not less OOP.

This isn't really a problem unless he's sitting next to you though.

At least in the games I play, the SB will be posted as dead money. Dead money seems to me to be a lot worse than a blind bet.

The problem here is that the button, cutoff, and trigger are often the three most profitable positions from which to play hands. Youre correct to think that you gain an advantage by being able to play your forced bet in the cutoff. But that advantage is counterbalanced by your forfiture of one third of your late position hands, and by the fact that you are paying 150% to start with for another third (ie a dead small plus a big)

If you could miss your blinds then post on the button and play all your late position hands, you would indeed have an advantage -- it would probably take forcing you to post a dead small and a dead big to counterbalance it.

but if you post both blinds from the CO doesn't this force people to play bigger pots from upfront to account for the extra money in the pot? doesn't this work in your favour

The main spot you would have to worry about in this situation is the button acting with position on you. You would be better off posting dead money against a weak button player than a strong one. The players acting before you will see more dead money in the pot, but they should also still notice their positional disadvantage.
