I randomly found this game on chessgames.com when looking through some of Tal's. I love how he sacs a pawn in the opening for development, then in a seemingly quiet position (2 rooks and 2 minors) he maintains the initiative by sac'ing another pawn. The way he used tactics and threats to ultimately win the game is very impressive. Games like this are more impressive to me than wild, sacrificial attacks. I'd give anything to be able to play like this in a queenless middlegame.

that's a truly awesome game, thanks for sharing. However, with 20. fxe4 instead of e3 white could have sacrificed the soundness of his position himself for great and probably winning piece activity. I guess Tal would have won the game with either colour in similar style at that point...

Funny you bring that up, that's the main improvement I noticed as well. I think it's a much more even game after that, especially with white's bishop being so opened. With all of the pawns in the center, white never got the light squared bishop going in any way and the black knight dominated. What HAD to try something else there.

I feel like I've played countless games like this one from the white side, meaning valuing structure too highly over piece play and paying the price. Note to self: study Tal's games.
