Wouldn't hurt to flip the board some. For some reason every new thing I learn in chess, I see my own opportunities first and only after more practice am I able to see those opportunities for my opponent. Maybe I'm weird, but it happened with tactics, strategic ideas, etc, etc.

I know one young 2200 player (12 years old, how depressing is that??!?) who uses a Monroi and flips the board on the Monroi so he can always see it from his opponent's perspective. I'll sometimes walk around behind my opponent to do the same thing if he's tanking.

Anyway, really interesting game.

Very interesting game, Damagor. I used to play that exact opening out of the accelerated dragon move-order so I'm really curious to go over it later.

I was really proud of myself for recognizing it transposed into a Sicilian Marcozy Bind - LOL - I'm like - that looks like a Sicilian MB - WTF - and then Chessbase showed the transposition - pretty wild

****ing hell I'm sorry today was a mess of a game I played like a beginner. In my defense I don't feel too well and it's midnight here but still pretty pathetic, sorry guys I'll be fresh and hungry for the next one

my opponent played some ******ed opening. can't take him seriously, am bored as **** and probably just hung a pawn. probably going to resign just because I'm paying pretty much 0 attention to this game, but he'll probably screw it up if i keep playing.

hahaha, I should not be playing today. my rating is pretty comical in blitz now. of course it doesn't help that premove is apparently disabled during simulized games.

swingdoc, is there a replacement available for next week? I definitely need a break from chess I think.

lol, yeah my opponent screwed up and I ship a terrible game.

Your record for this simul was: 6 wins, 1 draw, 6 losses: 6.5 - 6.5

definitely need a break for next week.

PM damagor and see if he would be willing to play. That ending was hilarious. White goes from completely winning (if he plays 37. d6) to dead lost (41. Qc2??) in 5 moves. Anyway, congrats on the win!

Prepared carefully for the Baltic Defense (1. d4 d5 2. c4 Bf5) so of course my opponent chooses the Tarrasch instead Admittedly there isn't all that much to prepare for the Baltic.

Turrrrible game. The only thing I did well was defend. I was on the phone for the first half and as soon as I was out of theory I insta-dropped 2 pawns and was forced to put all my pieces on passive squares. My opponent blundered to let me activate my horrible a3-rook and then gave me mating threats that allowed me to force a perpetual. He somehow blew that and I calculated to a R+P v R endgame that was winning.

you guys aren't gonna forgive me for this one....a truly shameful performance

Spoiler:

seriously chickened out and took the draw - (the second tme - turned down the first time on move 37) - the potential of those rolling passed pawns and minor piece coordination spooked me out too much - I even had TIME left to figure it out - it just looked too easy for a player of my level to screw up - and now it's so EASY with an analysis board - ARGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHH --- MASSIVE ADVANTAGE - FAIL

1. e4 d6 2. d4 Nf6 3. Nc3 g6 4. f4 Bg7 5. Nf3 O-O 6. Bd3 Na6 7. a3 c5 8. d5 Bg4
{0:50:10 - A common attacking plan in the Austrian is for white to 0-0 -
Qe1-h4 with the knight moving to g5 - Nigel Davies recommended (probably not
in this exact line but close) - trading off that knight if possible - so
that's what I did FYI - the Pirc is my main defense against 1. e4 - so in
one sense, I'm in pretty familiar territory - it's just I usually see the
classical instead of the Austrian, which suggests the c5 advance instead of c6
- (and Na6 believe it or not)} 9. O-O Nc7 10. h3 Bxf3 11. Qxf3 Qd7 12. f5 a6
13. g4 b5 {for lack of a better plan I'm seizing queenside space} 14. g5 Nh5
15. Be2 Be5 {thought for a long time on this move - I never came up with a
coherant strategy for attack here - more just putting my pieces on the best
squares and seeing where he would try to bust thru at - this seemed like a
killer square and would give Nh5 a retreat square if he tried to trade the
bishop for it and hose my pawn structure in front of the king} 16. Bd2 c4 {I
thought Ng3 trading off a knight for light bishop is a terrible idea since
that bishop is so bad - this move is supposed to limiit it a bit more - (his
c3 knight sucks too) - on the other hand both of my knights are very limited
and I'm seriously cramped for space} 17. Be3 Qc8 18. Rad1 Qb7 {kind of waiting
moves - not wanting to do anything else to damage my position - was having
doubts about the c4 pawn advance which will come to fruition shortly} 19. Bd4
Bxd4+ 20. Rxd4 Ng7 {time to find a home for my knights - no idea where} 21. f6
exf6 22. gxf6 Qb6 {this is pretty important move - I move the knight without a
plan and it's Q eventually over to h6 and mate - this locks the queen to the
defense of the rook/king for the time being and keeps her off the H file} 23.
Qf2 Nge8 24. Nd1 a5 {to facilitate Na6 up to c5 or maybe b8 - e7 - e5 - that
e5 square really taunted my but the space constraints kept me out of it
without some serious knight hopping which in this position I might have pulled
off} 25. c3 Na6 26. Ne3 Nc5 27. Ng4 $2 {looked like a blunder - should be able
to take the rook here or else trade queens and diffuse his defense of the f
pawn} Nb3 28. h4 Nxd4 29. cxd4 Rc8 30. h5 c3 31. bxc3 Rxc3 {no idea what he
would do here - but thought it time to start activating some counterplay} 32.
Nh6+ Kh8 33. hxg6 fxg6 34. f7 Ng7 35. e5 dxe5 {I saw dxe5 - Qe8 with threats
of Qg5 and Qxd5 renewing the threat vs f7 - started to like my position here -
tempted to steal the a pawn but let it slide - downsides - can't trade
queens after dxde or else I'm looking at three connected passed pawns and I
didn't think I could hold that} 36. dxe5 Qd8 37. Ng4 {opponenet makes first
draw offer - I'm at about 30 minutes - decline and take the pawn} Qxd5 38. Bf3
Qc5 39. Qxc5 Rxc5 40. Rd1 {2nd draw offer - hit my head vs wall and decided to
take it - I saw Ne6 was good - but then Bd5 - and didn't see Rd8 was a good
idea - obviously taking f7 pawn out of question - just didn't see the endgame
continuation - should have spend about 10 min on it before taking the draw I
suppose - sorta flaked on the idea as well that wiht Ne6 the king has a better
shot on g7 - also concerned about him playing Nf6 and getting a fork somewhere
- I chickened out and fell for the oldest trick in the book - taking a draw
from a superior player with an inferior position - ah well} 1/2-1/2

Nice game, Whiskey!!

Yeah, the ending wasn't ideal, but that's not the easiest position to evaluate. You'd have to calculate pretty accurately to be sure that you are winning. One line I looked at just trying to guess was 41...Nd6 42. Bd5 Rd8 43. Nf6 and now the natural Nf4? leads to a draw at best (and it's easy to lose suddenly). Regardless, you played the middlegame very nicely.

Heh. I'm playing horribly, sorry guys. Am tired and don't feel like playing, thats the problem when you have to schedule in advance I guess. Also am trying to finish off my last MTT at the same time.

I managed to pull out a win from what started out looking like a pretty speculative attack, launched because I had blundered a pawn. Not a game I'm proud of but I did win.

I saw your update from the blackberry - had to leave early - it looks like you tried something I often do - (playing a KIA vs. the Sicilian) - I gotta admit was looking scary but I'm glad you pulled it off bro - (and I think we needed the win in the standings - LOL) - pax - RB

My main problem was that I didn't play Bh6 early enough. I tried h4 first and he replied h5 with the rook still on h8 so I couldn't play Bh6, and I was like oh ****, I didn't realise he'd do that. The larger problem was that I just don't really like the positions that arise from Closed Sicilian/KIA's. I hate closed centers. Next time I'm just going to try to muddle through with some kind of made-up Open Sicilian. After I couldn't play Bh6 anymore I just played random moves for a while all pissed off at my position until I played the ******ed Nce2 and he set me up to lose a pawn. After that I went all out for the victory against his king which to be fair he didn't have anywhere safe to put. He didn't treat my attack seriously enough, instead setting up a cheap trap to try to win my queen, and paid the price I guess. I still don't feel like I deserve the points.

I'm playing my next game now. The guy pulled out the Blackmar-Diemer Gambit vs my Scandinavian again, but this time I was prepared. I have a decent advantage now.
