By the way, while Wei Yi continued his recent ratings slide at the Asian Nations Cup, which disappointed me, one upside is that his struggles there included a draw against 12 year old Alireza Firouzja.

Alireza finished 5.5/7, including 2.5/4 against GMs, 2644 performance rating, and his first GM norm! Wei Yi's old news, clearly. On to the next prodigy obsession!

Really enjoying the Saint Louis broadcast so far. Great games, and even though I've never been the greatest fan of Jennifer's (Hi, I know you're reading this), I think she's improved tremendously as a presenter/commentator. Yasser has been an idol of mine since my youth (I'm in my late 30's), and listening to him talk about chess is just the greatest thing ever, apart from maybe Karpov or Kasparov doing that.

I once had lunch with Irina and Joel Benjamin at a tournament when I was in HS. She was cute then but not close to cutest girl at the tournament. Although, I have to admit I flirted with the sister of a player my age, thinking she was a couple of years younger but she was like 12. . Embarrassing. I was 15 or 16 but, still.

Same tournament my dad told me Jennifer Shahade was checking me out at the pool. Not sure about that but the whatever year old me was pumped about it but too chicken to go talk to her of course.

A good question but I don't think he cares about competing in or for Italy. Hikaru probably would be more excited about it due to his gf or whatever.
