I'll preemptively snip this irritating trend in the bud and point out that I don't give a single **** who doesn't find this funny or whatever.

Sort of like AIML didn't do with his comment after this post.

If you feel like being the arbiter of chess humor, post content yourself once in a while. No one's here just to please you. Keep it to yourself like 99.9% of people do when they don't enjoy things.

Be more butthurt over a harmless comment from 7! months ago.

Spoiler:
Oh wait, you can't.

You also never gave me my 11 minutes back.

I let it go, which is something you could learn from.

Hmm, it looks like a fairly normal European wedding, nothing to see there.

it's an elite vid and anyone who thinks otherwise is as objectively wrong as 1. e4 e5 2. Nf3?!*

Beware the wrath of Rei.

I think it was a nice and endearing video. I'm happy for them.

I thought it was nice to watch, even though it is a pretty typical wedding

Anyway, Tania Sachdev's wedding was less usual to a Western eye even though it might have been typical for the Indian culture.

Seems pretty mundane to me -- doesn't have a fancy dubstep video with slow motion.

I enjoyed the videos from both weddings. Sopiko is entertaining at everything in life. I hope she commentates with Svidler for the WC match.

I'm terrible. ~1000 on chess.com. Started playing casually with hardly any study a few months back. What do you think I should work on first? Mating nets, opening principles, end game (I'm really bad here), basic tactics (x-ray, pin, etc.), or something else?

My guess is mating nets as I am bad at closing the game, which no doubt is pretty important to winning!

You can never go wrong with doing lots of tactics exercises no matter your playing strength. Grandmasters do tactics regularly to stay sharp. However, I don't subscribe to the "Do only tactics until you reach level X" school of thought. Working through and understanding the fundamentals of strategy and, say, basic king-and-pawn endgames is useful and (for me at least) fun, and if it's a hobby, fun should be the most important aspect.

I would say that blindly memorising opening lines is probably time most uselessly spent. Understand what you should be doing in the opening, and why.

You see, my dislike for dubstep explains my entire attitude to the video

As for tactics, try ChessTempo - its problems are less predictable than those of chess.com where there are too many queen sacs

The fact that you're bad at closing the game means that you need to focus on the endgame - far not all of your games will allow for a successful mating attack, and you should be able to convert a material advantage into a pawn promotion without spending too much clock time, which (incl. timely piece trades when you're ahead in material) is often easier than finding a direct mate in the middlegame.

In master-level blitz games on Youtube, most people resign in the middlegame if they're down a piece, but that's because they trust that their opponents know how to convert the extra piece into a win as both are rated high enough; but low-rated opponents will usually refuse to resign early and will test your endgame ability trying to flag you.

Are the Muzychuk sisters married (or engaged)? If one of them isn't, you still have a chance

(Amazingly, their home city of Stryi is, despite its tiny size, one of the few Ukrainian cities where I've been, albeit very briefly.)

This was my list back in May. I'd move Kosteniuk down quite a bit; photoshoot pics overrate her. Sopiko would be slid to #3. #7 and below on both lists were tossed in to complete the top ten -- a lot of close decisions there. Inarkiev #1 on the men's side is the clearest, I think.

That nose, though

If you're into it, you might like IM / WGM Anna Rudolf too.

How can they ever be 'that close'? Is there a country that allows lesbian marriage between full sisters?

I got more pissed with my non chess friends than I should have last week when they were trying to argue that all female chess players are ugly, despite most likely never having seen a female player in there lives.

Like it actually got me really agitated even though I know they were probably just joking. Kind of want to figure a way to show pictures from that lost without it appearing intentional

Do you deny that the women's chess ability does put rose-tinted glasses on male chess players?

I don't know if any of the IM+ female chess players are intersubjectively beautiful - my view is that, in general, there are no (or <1%) beautiful women, there are just those who happen to have my fetishes, one of which is certainly chess.
