Just watched the match and have 2 questions:

1) At 9-6 Bill cleared the 4pt instead of the 5pt bearing off against a 1pt game. Was this correct? I thought he was deciding between 2 different moves.

2)Does Phil ever stop talking during a match

1) It was a blunder, actually. The right play was the straightforward 5/4(4). There are positions where clearing the 5-pt (instead of the 6) and leaving a gap is correct, although they're rare. I thought the same idea might apply here because I had plenty of spares on the remaining points, but I was way wrong. It's possible there are no positions where clearing the 4 ahead of the 5 is correct.
