Can anyone (Bill?) point me towards an article or book that shows the optimum replies to the opening moves. I read that there was an article about this by Jeremy Bagal, but I wasn´t able to find it.

Bad news: There's nothing available (that I know of) in book form that gives a complete description of the replies to the opening moves.

Good news: Some years ago Jeremy Bagai wrote an article on this topic. Here's the link: http://www.fortuitouspress.com/replies.

In February I'll be releasing the first book in a three-book set on how to play the opening in backgammon. Chapter 2 in that book will be a very thorough discussion of how to play the replies to the opening roll and why various replies are correct.

I created a section with 425 Opening Replies for Unlimited games on my website. It doesn't have any text but it is an interactive quiz which will help you learn. http://bgquiz.com
