Following a link I found in an earlier post, I came across a whole bunch of articles on backgammon, here:

I notice a large portion of them were written long ago, dating back to the 70's. How reliable are these, given that they predate backgammon programs? Given that I probably can't tell good advice from bad at the moment, should I only be reading articles from 2000 onward?
