Following a link I found in an earlier post, I came across a whole bunch of articles on backgammon, here: http://www.bkgm.com/articles/

I notice a large portion of them were written long ago, dating back to the 70's. How reliable are these, given that they predate backgammon programs? Given that I probably can't tell good advice from bad at the moment, should I only be reading articles from 2000 onward?

There were plenty of good articles and problem analysis from the 70s, 80s, and 90s, but some bad ones as well. I read most of the bkgm articles a few years ago and my impression was that it was a very good collection, carefully culled from what was available.

You might also want to check out the problems of the week from the first two years of this forum. There are about 160 of them, and they cover many topics.
