It's possible, but probably not if it led to any consequential differences (ie raising children/whether to have children, church attendance, views on things like abortion, etc). Political differences might be more important to me, though. I could probably marry a lapsed/liberal Christian or Jew or especially a Buddhist or Hindu or Sikh, but I don't think I could ever marry a Republican.

Do you really mean that? Or is it just that the moderate Republicans you might marry aren't True Republicans?

I don't have any problem with conservatives, but I don't have much respect for the morals or intelligence of anyone who would self-identify as a Republican in today's America.

Yes. religeous issues are really not of much importance to me.

I don't think I could marry a true believer. If you're a true believer, then you must think everyone that doesn't believe is going to hell. So if she truly loved me, she would do everything she could to convert me, which would make my life miserable. It's like that episode of Seinfeld from the last season. Elaine finds out that Puddy is a Jesus Freak but does nothing to convert her. He just says 'you're the one going to hell, not me' and she gets mad because he doesn't care about her eternal future, even though she doesn't believe in an afterlife.

I totally would if I fell in love with her, of course, I just don't think that's very likely with someone who has strong religious beliefs.

Probably not. Strongly religious is correlated with too many negative from my pov things.

People do it all the time. then, AFTER they are married, they realize that having different belief systems is a big problem. Like having children this is a subject that should be discussed in depth BEFORE marriage. Most people are in the "im in love" fog, however, and neglect to do so.

Someone said yes because religion is not very important to them. Exactly. Now after youve been married to that religous person it becomes a problem.

Its very tough to do. Having similar beliefs makes it MUCH easier to stay married.

It's not that it would be impossible for an atheist and a theist to have a happy marriage, its just that the odds would be against them. There would be inevitable conflict, especially when children come into the picture, that there would likely be deep tension at certain times.

It's not about prejudice, it's about compatibility. I would think in a marriage with extreme religious divergence, at least one of the two would have to be extremely passive about their point of view for the marriage to avoid those tensions.

You must be extremely hot or rich to get away with this strategy.
