And how do you know that? Plenty of atheists here were once believers and did their religious studies..

plenty of people are just lazy and don't care to pick up a science book because to many of them it's a boring subject so they rather stick with the stories passed on at the diner table by their parents and grandparents, Jesus is real , he could walk on water, dark magic exists, god doesn't want you to masturbate, etc...

My parents have never had a belief in God. Stop claiming to know things.

You're hard to read.

Your ideas don't come across clearly in this format.

Though I think it might be your writing style, too.

God speaks to us in many ways. The living word of God is to be heard in the Bible. But, God speaks to us even before we are able to understand Him. I had many examples of this before I became a Christian, times when He spoke to me though protection, saving me before my knowing that I was saved. These times are, in hindsight now known to me but at that time I did not know. I was once talking to a friend on the side walk, I involuntarily stepped forward two paces then heard the bump of tyre on kerb and saw the look of horror in my friends face as an automobile drove over the very spot that I had been standing.

I have heard God’s voice audibly only once. It was not a booming voice from the skies but a quite gentle "you are forgiven" from within when I finally asked for forgiveness (The Holy Spirit is generally very shy). But, God continues to speak with me in the form of visions, dreams, ideas and events. I know many Christians that keep a journal of Gods words and can look back and see them when they have become reality in theirs or others lives.

Are you aware of how rare and unusual your story is?

As is your spelling:
"tyre on kerb"

Similar to:
"phall on your neez:

You don't have to answer if it is to personal, but I would like to know for which sin you were personally forgiven by god.

I am not sure it is really that rare. Perhaps just on these boards. I am sure if you really think back there are times similar in your life that you have had near misses or other unexplained things happen. That was God talking to you.

It was not a case for which sin, it was for all sin - the sinful state that we enter into when born.

I must add that when you are forgiven it is usual that The Holy Spirit takes you through the incidents in your life that you need to atone for. In my case this took 2 weeks on and off whereby I was reminded of every little thing I had done that had caused hurt or suffering to others. Some of these incidents I had completely forgotten about and some I didn’t even know that I had done. But, at the end of the process was freedom, oh what freedom, the bonds broken for good. I dare you.

I wanted to allow for the possibility that Jesus was delivering a soliloquy.

Or any descriptions of a personal friend or clergyman who was spoken to by God. But no "friend of a friend" stories please.
Oh boy... I know I shouldn't bite on this but I will. I promise to stay respectful and answer your question. I hope you will also.

I had been going through some stuff for the last 3 years or so and in October I finally decided to speak to someone about it. He is a member of the church I go to and someone I respect. Guy worked for NASA and at one point was about to be a top guy there. Basically what I am saying is he is a pretty intelligent guy and level headed. (No, working at NASA doesnt make you the most brilliant or level headed person, just using it as an example) He wanted to pray with me and ask God to "speak" to me. So we prayed about different things when something began to break through. Was it a voice? No. But I started to get images in my mind about a time when I was a kid and my Mom had me call my Dad and basically tell him off (divorced parents). I didn't get it so I prayed some more and asked why the image of my Mom when the problem we were praying about had absolutely nothing to do with her. It was a realtionship problem that I was having trouble with between my wife and I. So I asked and in my heart I felt a burden to call my Mom and tell her that we needed to talk ASAP and that I needed to forgive her for the moment when I was a kid, some other things that happened growing up, and to also help her with her current alcohol problem. So I told the person I was praying with what God "spoke" to me and right at that moment my Mom called me on my phone. My mouth dropped open. Argue coincedence or whatever you may. I answered the phone and said, "Mom we really need to talk, but let me call you right back." I told the guy I was praying with that I needed to go so that I could set something up with my Mom. I was planning on maybe going out to lunch with her the next day. So I called her up and said, "Hey where are you because we need to talk if not today then maybe tomorrow." She said, "Well I'm at your house right now." Again mouth dropped open (coincedence again I guess). We live in different cities (about 45 minutes apart) and its rare for her to come to my house especially after work.

That is my experience. I have others, but that is the most profound and jaw dropping I can think of. I can already imagine that I will get flamed and that someone is going to have a question about logic or whatever that they want me to answer. I kind of knew what I was stepping in here so bomb away.

You honestly don't see any connection between you having a relationship problem with your wife, and your parents divorce? Maybe its just me, but I know friends with divorced parents, and when they fight with their spouses, that is the first thing that comes to their mind.

Never said what the relationship issue was exactly, and my parents split when I was like 1. My Mom met another guy around a year later who has filled in well as a father figure. My spouse and I have never had a knock down screaming at each other argument. We dont always agree with each other, but it never leads to "fighting." I may have the one and only women in the world that just lets me be and do what I please as long as its morally and ethically reasonable (stuff like play poker all day and night X amount days a week).
