RIP to a true con man.

Also widely accused of being a homosexual pedophile.
my mom would literally smack me in the face if she heard me say....good riddance, death to Baba.

Lots of Hindus cant even deal with the fact he is a fraud, because he is so widely believed...
reminds me of evangelicals...

THere are Plethos in America, as well as India...Sai Baba is an example of people worshipping a man as a god, and the abuses of power that religious leaders are prone to.

I hope they skewer him during the obits, but knowing the Indian media, probably will make a big deal like he is Mother Teresa...

About 8 years ago I stayed at his Ashram in Bangalore India for 2 weeks. He had a broken foot and rolled around in a wheelchair and a cast when he came out for worship a few times a day.

And what did you think of the Lord's reincarnation using wheel chair?

Anyway, was he still collecting checks?

He wasnt doing much of anything.

I had no clue who the guy even was until I got there. I was traveling in India and had a few weeks to kill before I went to Europe, and a few of the peoplpe I was hanging with were "followers" of Him and wanted to go stay at the Ashram so I decided to tag along for the adventure.

The Sai Babba Gestapo would wheel him out 2 or 3 times a day (i cant remember anymore, i know the first wheelie was at like 5 am though because the Gestapo would come wake me up every morning at 4am for "optional" worship (I really think the most bad ass thing I've ever done in my life was yawn and tell them and my roomates that I would rather sleep than go worship God) He would wave and have a big ol smile and sit there for an hour or so while everyone chanted, and that was about it.

You didn't ask why "God" who can perform miracles got hurt? and needs a wheel chair?

I had forgotten my press credentials.

The general consensious was "Swammi works in mysterious ways" though.

I meant, ask your friends. You were there with them for 14 days. How can you not ask this obvious question? If this guy performs miracles, how can he get hurt and then need a doctor to heal? How did you pass the time there since you were not a believer and weren't into singing poems praising him?

We are still in a world where people worship objects and other people.

Sigh.

Yes, Hardball47, why can't people wake up and worship Allah, the true God, like you do? Just unbelievable...

I didn't ask because the answer seemed pretty obvious to me -- he was just a guy. I didn't feel like it was my job to educate anyone. I was there for the experience. I wandered around the surrounding villiage for most of the days, I had some assigned chores I had to do, mostly I just took cold showers to stay cool, watched villiagers and went to the occasional worship to be a part of the show.

Yahweh/Yeshua, God, Allah. It's all the same one God, bro!!

Btw, I don't care what you choose to do, nor do I have any special preferences with regards to your choices. God gave you the capacity to reason and decide for yourself; it's your prerogative.

Why not say "Jesus, Mohammad, Sai Baba", they're all the same? Why mock people who believe Sai while pretending that you're tolerant of all beliefs?

Are you serious? The guy was claiming to be GOD.

And why are his claims any more ridiculous than that of Jesus and Mohammad and L Ron Hubbard?

Jesus (we believe) and Mohammad didn't claim to be divine and Godlike. Neither did L Ron Hubbard, actually.

Jesus did, Mohammad didn't. They were both, however, men. Very special people chosen by God, but still just men - creations of God.

So, Jesus has supernatural powers but he is just a man? Can you list other human beings with supernatural powers? And why do you think people pray to a man like Jesus?

And why is Sai Baba any different? He didn't claim he was a God. He just displayed his supernatural powers and did some good things and some people called him God.

I'm going to piss off a lot of people by saying this, but I'm throwing caution to the wind: both worshipers of Sathya Sai Baba and Jesus Christ are making the same grave mistake.

If God bestows supernatural ability, that doesn't mean the receiver of that blessing is divine and that their status is raised higher than that of a man. If you woke up tomorrow and had superman's powers, I wouldn't bow down to you.

If you believe people who worship Jesus are the same as people who worship Sai Baba, why did you make this claim "We are still in a world where people worship objects and other people. Sigh." like this was something new? You already knew around 2 billion people think Jesus as having divine powers and worship him on a daily basis.

Oh, it's nothing new, of course, lamentable as it is. It was a mere reminder their worshiping is equivalent.

Nope.

By the way, the anti-Christ is supposed to be something like this General Zod character, except charming and likeable.
