What are my fellow Catholics giving up for lent? I'm going fast food, which will suck the most around breakfast time.

Any creative stories from yesteryear about things you've given up? Do you guys just go right back into whatever indulgence you gave up on Easter Sunday?

My mom, who has smoke for 30 years gave up cigs one year, 40 some odd days, then on Easter Sunday, lit up. Pissed me off bad.

I should be giving up RGT, but then I wouldn't be able to sleep because of how misguided I know you all will be.

I always forget about Ash Wednesday until I see the first smudgy forehead of the morning.

Anyway I think Lent is good sport, and I want to decide by the end of the day what I will give up.

F U my movie was spectacular.

Will give up alcohol which is tough since I enjoy a nightly Jim Beam on the rocks (will make an exception for St Patrick's Day since I'll be in Vegas w/the wife though).

Spiritual growth I think is the better goal for Lent compared to just "giving up" something. IMO praying the rosary daily with your family or stopping by the Tabernacle in a free moment to say hello to Jesus is vastly superior to going 40 days without buying Little Debbies or something.

Oh, and I'd always chuckle at the funny looks/comments I'd get walking around with ashes on my forehead all day. Going to the 7PM service so it won't be a problem for me today.

*Edit OP I see you're engaged. Have you considered doing a joint Lent effort w/your fiancee if she's Catholic?

Same thing I give up every year. Catholicism, you know see how it goes.

Yeah, it was her idea for fast food, so we are going at it together. We have to go to Pre-Cana classes soon too, which may be deserving of its own TR thread.
