Dr AF, I have a pharmacy question for you. I got part one of Shingrix pre-pandemic. Not going back for part two anytime soon, so def not within 6 months, probably not for a year or more. I wasted $150 and will need to start all over again, right?

Wrong. The recommended window is 2-6 months after the first immunization. If you don't receive it in that window you should still acquire the second dose. Why aren't you going to strap on a mask and go to the pharmacy and get a ****ing shot? They're doing them again.

tl;dr put on a mask and goggles and go to Walgreens for your second shot right meow.

So if I acquire the second dose in 18 months instead of 6, how do I know it'll be effective? I have no plans to go into a pharmacy or dr's office until it's to get my covid vaccine

The idea that a Covid vaccine is going to be produced in any reasonable time frame is laughable. What's even more laughable is the idea that the vaccine is going to be any more effective than a flu shot. Going into a pharmacy and properly distancing from people while properly protected yourself is not all that dangerous of an idea given that we have a decent understanding of the main transmission vector for this disease.

There is no data and thus I cannot claim that it will be. If you were to wait longer than a year or two to receive the second immunization I am going to say repeating the full series would be the best idea, although providers may not be willing to repeat it.
