The HBO series "Real Time With Bill Maher" went to pot – quite literally – during a visit from guest Zach Galifianakis on Friday.

Discussing California's Proposition 19 ballot, which aims to legalize marijuana use, the star of "The Hangover" noted that, "It's a tricky thing, politically, to jump on that bandwagon, because I think that maybe people see it as taboo still."

Galifianakis then pulled out a joint, lit it up, and began puffing away as host Maher and his panelists sat stunned and amused. The funnyman then handed the joint to conservative television and radio commentator Margaret Hoover, who took a whiff and assured the audience, "It's real."

The mellowed actor continued smoking as the panelists returned to the topic at hand, before shouting, "Oh my God, look at those dragons!"

"That's my point," noted Galifianakis of his on-air high. "I think that's what people think of it."

California voters will decide on Prop 19 on Tuesday.
