Thought into what they buy in America, doubt that. It will all come down to regulation if anything is going to change.

As the snow flies
On a cold and gray Chicago mornin'
A poor little baby child is born
In the ghetto
And his mama cries
'cause if there's one thing that she don't need
it's another hungry mouth to feed
In the ghetto

People, don't you understand
the child needs a helping hand
or he'll grow to be an angry young man some day
Take a look at you and me,
are we too blind to see,
do we simply turn our heads
and look the other way

Well the world turns
and a hungry little boy with a runny nose
plays in the street as the cold wind blows
In the ghetto

And his hunger burns
so he starts to roam the streets at night
and he learns how to steal
and he learns how to fight
In the ghetto

Then one night in desperation
a young man breaks away
He buys a gun, steals a car,
tries to run, but he don't get far
And his mama cries

As a crowd gathers 'round an angry young man
face down on the street with a gun in his hand
In the ghetto

As her young man dies,
on a cold and gray Chicago mornin',
another little baby child is born
In the ghetto

labelling someone as a hippy/do-gooder etc is an easy way to dismiss their opinion without having to listen to them. both sides of the argument have valid points and generally speaking neither side will change their mind/opinion regardless, even if theres a winning line that cant be disputed, human nature is to disregard valid information for self serving mantras and most people will stubbornly cling to an ideal that 5% of the world population agrees with

fwiw i was a vegetarian for 4 years and looking back it was probably the most miserable time of my life

People have to eat right? People want there food to be as cheap as it can be right?

Thats why standards are what they are, you want them better then you would be paying a hell of a lot more then what you do now.

But im no longer a meat worker thank god

After you said:
"The problem is that the world is full of people who don't care about anything except for their own wallet and belly. Now if you're very poor I can understand that, but if you're reasonably wealthy like most people in the western world you can decide to buy meat that has a realistic price and doesn't come from animals raised under horrible circumstances and fed garbage."

Its hard for me to see you having "cash-strapped times". Thats why I wonder about the percent of the US population that you considered wealthy. THis is probably worthy of its own thread though.

I'm with tart on this. Organic beef tastes *much* better and I will pay for that. I don't want my food to be "as cheap as possible" I want my food to be as nutritious and tasty as possible.

jesus christ... I guess I am going to have to start the zombie apocalypse since it doesn't seem to be getting started as fast as I would like it to be... somehow someway we need to get rid of about 90% of the population
