Im not sure what critical points are missing but afaik this is based on true stories so maybe the people its based on were not involved in those events?

its like the wire, needs to be rewatched a few times to really be appreciated for what is going on. Also it kinda seems to be the point that we dont get to really know many of these people because their lifespan was so short. shows how nasty the war in the pacific was

this all goes back to my theory as to why a good movie about WW1 trench fighting doesnt exist
06-06-2010 , 02:43 PM
i've only seen the wire the whole way through once and i thought it was epic

and you aren't supposed to be indifferent about a character imo

what is this theory

the theory is the characters, since they are all destined to die quickly its kinda hard to write a movie around them. so you are left with just filming a bunch of action which would still be cool but then nits would complain about no characters and it all just seems to go in circles.

only seen the wire once through, wat.

watch it again and be amazed at all the huuuuge foreshadowing

+1000 Bonus hipster points for a sarcastic mustache.

fin.
So I'm deginitely not a hipster. My jeans aren't skinny and I don't even understand what this hipster hairstyle looks like. I get a haircut like every 6-9 months when my hair is so long that it bugs me and I find someone to make me a short haircut.
I don't like V-necks and don't have much chest hair.

Did you hit the girl like I told you?

it is really based on the characters, and the ones they had were very good and intiguing. im just sad that they only spent 10-15 minutes covering iwa jima, nothing on pearl harbor (iirc), and nothing on hiroshima and nagasaki.

tbh, the naval war in the pacific was even more important than the land war, and for them to not even mention it at all left something to be desired. i think that they could have left out most of the peleliu material and included (another character perhaps) the naval war/fighter plane stuff.

finally, i really think they spent too much time in australia in the 2nd or 3rd episode. they spent 10% of the series on introducing that chick character and then we never saw her again.

The problem with the Pacific was that it was very obv that it's a mixture of two books imo. The storyline had too many "jumps".

foreshadowing isn't hard to see if you're looking for it

I was at a family celebration at my parents house yesterday and my demented grandpa told me in every detail how he avoided getting send into battle in 1945 as a 17 year old.
He had no idea what he had for dinner that day but he remembered everything about the last months of WW2.
