One question I have is this: is this reform good or bad for the insurance companies? I've heard conflicting things. Some saying they are all for it, others saying they fought it tooth and nail.

Buying insurance company's stock will be a good idea in the future with all the mandatory revenue coming in.
my mom is 54 and pays like 600/month with a 4500$ deductible. she probably makes like 40k a year, spends maybe 8k a year on healthcare. and its just getting more expensive.

They fought it tooth and nail, but they knew it was inevitable so they tried as hard as they could to get some provisions into it which were good for them.

I mean just so euros and others understand say you wanted a healthplan for yourself and your fam of 4 , outside a group plan its close to 1k a month.

Again its a start , so that's good but until they blow up the health ins industry and tell doctors that it doesn't really cost "10000 dollars to check the dead guys pulse" we are doomed.

one good thing about the bill is that it makes insurance companies spend a % of all money coming in on actual medical expenses, i think it is like 85% iirc. that kind of limits their profitability.

Im at just over 140 a month cause ive got the concession card but if we wore both working it would be about $200 but its all a tax right off here anyway. When i hurt my knee i went to the physiotherapy twice a week for 3 weeks that would cost me bout $500 right there now imagine if i needed a reco.

And i agree that a lot is spent on those who probably dont deserve it.

u hear them here on right wing talk radio about ppl in other countries, i think its more talking point that anything else. you look at the amount we spend per capita on healthcare, and you look at our rankings in outcomes worldwide, its obvious our system is broken.

I dont pay alot under the assumption that Im healthy and I have emergency room coverage. Ofcourse Im not in a high risk group being 23.

Russian health care was free but you would always go in with a gift for the doctor. Alcohol was very common and numerous doctors developed drinking problems. There was always the option of going to a private clinic if you could afford it. My parent always send money back to their relatives for private hospital time.

I wouldnt mind that sort of system here.. I think its better then what we have, but it isn't the answer either imo.

Meh i kind of disagree with this. Med school + internship/residency is a lot of time and the hours they have to put in for those plus the debt they have to finance for it (up to 250k in some cases) means they have made enough sacrifices that they should be getting paid a very high income.
