i think the thing that most surprised me was the cost of beer and smokes. a good beer cost me 7 dollars and the price of cigs made me cut back severely.

A slab of beer now cost 42 here fml. Its gone up nearly 20% in 5 years due to taxs

I mean conservative politicians in Europe do that too, but it's not nearly as successful.

A big reason that that has worked for decades is that the left is scared to come out and rebut that, because they know they'll be labeled as liberal, and socialist, and anti-capitalist, and pro-tax, etc, and they've allowed all of those words to become epithets by not defending them. IDK much about Europe, but Euro pols are not scared to be called liberals, God bless 'em.
