Yes it is. Very much so. That's why I'm not just taking this job. But it's tempting because I've been wanting to join the Air Force for about 15 years now and I'm incredibly pumped to finally get on with it.

I'm gonna be an E-3, so $1,705.80/month. That doesn't include housing, meal, clothing, and other allowances.

If I were going in as an officer, I'd make A Cool One Thousand more every month. Stay in school, kids.
01-05-2010 , 11:20 AM

Is that tax free, so thats 400 a week plus free housing a food? Pension? The package is good if you dont think of just the wage

My understanding is that I have to pay regular taxes on the base pay but not on the other stuff. I do get a pension and **** after 20 years. Also I get health and life insurance plus all sorts of money to pay for college. My promotion to E-4 ($1,889.70/month) is automatic after 28 months though I could get it after 22 months. It's a pretty nice little package.

Well, I'm back and I'm not happy. Zero hot girls in the gym today. Just the fat-bastard-new-year-resolution crowd.

What bout when you want to have a family and stuff, its going to get tough being away from home. I think national service is a good thing for a single man but very tough for someone with a family at home.

I guess pay is not a big thing for you its more serving your country amirite?

lot of respect to you, i could never do the away from home stuff or even be mentally up to the job. Ill try and help people in my own back yard.

That's why you should avoid the gym till the end of february, to weed out all the new year resolution people. Pie up until then!

I don't have a family. And I can get out in four years.

The base pay itself is better than what I make now. I just got my W-2 and I made $16,516.75 pretax in 2009 with absolutely no benefits. When you add in the allowances and the fact that I'll finally have health insurance and **** and the tax breaks I'll get, I'd say it's like I'm getting a 10k/year raise or so. But yeah, the pay isn't the reason I'm doing it imo.
