Pretty sure it was The Martian.

My stomach hurts

See, this is the way everyday should be. Sleep in until noon. Watch tv and play video games, then go out for dinner to see friends/family. Why oh why do I have to work for a living
10-15-2017 , 08:40 AM
So you have somewhere to sleep. Have a TV to watch. Have video games to play. And afford to go out to dinner with friends and family.
10-15-2017 , 08:40 AM
I need $3k of deductions to get me under a tax bracket.

Am taking ideas.

Go!

Uuhhg, well why don't the government just give us that stuff for free!
10-15-2017 , 08:55 AM
Most people would be happy with some cheap healthcare.

Please clarify what this means, because one meaning is very naughty, and the other meaning makes your tax laws ******ed.
10-15-2017 , 08:58 AM
I say it's naughty, but tbh, my entire tax return is pulled from my ass, because I'm too lazy to track my deductions (don't tell the tax man!)

Australia has an income cutoff where you have to pay extra medicare payments if you don't have private health care. It's an extra 1% on all income. As I don't live in Australia and you can't use Australian Private Heath Care anywhere but Australia I obviously don't have it.

So it's not really a jump in a tax payment going $1 over a certain amount, but a penalty for not having private health care if you earn $1 over a certain amount.
10-15-2017 , 09:46 AM
Yeah, so what I was wondering was (and if you answered and I misunderstood, I'm sorry) are you actually looking to spend 3k on something that you can then deduct, to save money overall? Because if spending 3k saves you more than 3k, then I think your system is dumb.
10-15-2017 , 09:48 AM
Why you paying tax in aus if you don't live there? This whole thing is very confusing to me.
10-15-2017 , 09:48 AM
Very dumb, sorry.

Correct. I can spend 3k and get it all back effectively. It's stupid.

The hard thing though is that it's for last financial year (ended in June), so I need a time machine.
10-15-2017 , 09:49 AM
Because I'm a resident of Australia.

And our business is registered there.
10-15-2017 , 09:52 AM
Oh, a business you say. Hire me! I'm actually not stupid, I was only kidding before, promise..
10-15-2017 , 09:55 AM
Your first job is to find me $2k of deductions I haven't thought about for the last financial year.

Go!

I've already come up with 1k of them, so it's down to 2k now.
10-15-2017 , 10:02 AM
I'll break out the idea tree and get back to you.
