I guess randomly does have a precise definition in statistics. Too bad it's pretty much the exact opposite of how the word is commonly understood

Quote:
ran·dom·ly
ˈrandəmlē
adverb
without method or conscious decision; indiscriminately.
"troops fired randomly from tanks"

STATISTICS
in a way that involves equal chances for each item.
"each clinic surveyed 20 patients who were selected randomly"

100 people are randomly selected. How many of the 100 are right hand dominant? According to statistics 50 of the 100 people are.
05-15-2017 , 10:22 PM
Assuming all 100 have both right & left hands ofc.

I mean only by the 50/50 principle of either they are or they aren't, not by actual statistics, or even the quote for randomly you posted.

The headline bothers me more than the question tbh. He didn't answer the question in 1 second. He rang in to answer in less than a second - after which he had 45 seconds to solve.

Of course, I can't read what this conversation is actually about can't read tweet links on Tapatalk, so maybe this affront on actual statistics has context.

You think chicks are equally likely to peck right or left? You've probably never even had chickens like wisski & I have.

The question: In a barn, 100 chicks sit peacefully in a circle. Suddenly, each chick randomly pecks the chick immediately to its left or right. What is the expected number of unpecked chicks?

I think they're probably about 55% likely to peck left 1st based on the way their mind maps information, but I'm not a doctor.

If one tries to peck right and the other one left. Don't they headbutt each other?
05-15-2017 , 10:32 PM
50:50—either you get pecked or you don't.
05-15-2017 , 10:32 PM
i wish some kid would get all in the judges faces and argue that bull**** real loud in front of everyone like a 12-year-old john mcenrowe
