I think you guys are anthropomorphizing their purpose? Not exactly that. I'm not sure there's a word for what you're doing. Anyway, I only eat free range chickens. I'm not sure exactly what that means but it makes me feel better about consuming them. Like the trade-off they're making is more likely to be fair from the chickens point of view. Of course I don't know that because I can't talk to the chickens and I don't want to anthropomorphize them because I've heard that was bad.
