The NCAA plantation crap tilts me. The having athletics and higher education married for some unknown reason baffles the crap out of me.

Having said the latter...I "translated" a chemistry test into Spanish for an essential member of my Universities Basketball team complete with help in how to answer the questions when he was having trouble. Not really sure why. Basketball is a religion in that part of the world and he seemed a nice sort of fellow. Dumb as a brick and whether he knew chemistry or not would never help him. Btw in the intervening years as it happens the crap on the exam I helped him with turned out to be complete crap (as I suspected at the time), so there is that. Maybe someday school will be for people that are bright to go and learn and that will be where the Lion's share of the money and attention goes. That will be the day that math bowl fills stadiums I reckon.

on my way back from the casino (finished ahead) I damn near got into a single car-crash due to a friggin' dead dear in the road.

Was going 60mph (speed limit--cause cops were every where tonight) and saw the carcass at the last second. Yanked the wheel, started to fishtail. I managed to stop without any damage, but holy crap that was intense.

Had I hit the damn thing it would have totaled my car. Missed it by THAT MUCH.

Yeah, I my school it was a tuition game. Small town, declining "coolness" leading locals to Duluth=decreasing enrollment. They lure they athletes in and make the student-life fund pay for it..to the tune of about 200,000k/year. That may not sound like much, but when you're talking about 800 students on my small campus paying that, it becomes a hefty burden. One that I would support shouldering if they even attained a 50% graduation rate...but since it is less than 1/10...

They bring the students here, push them through enough 1st and 2nd year classes to play and then dump them pre-graduation when they don't have the literacy, skills, etc to pass the few mandatory classes with profs that won't be bullied and don't have bleeding hearts...

They leave tens of thousands in debt with no degree and our library has to beg for 500 bucks a year to buy new books.
