I seriously doubt there's a charity in this world run as efficiently as Social Security. Social Security runs at ~2% overhead and practically all charities run at ~20%+
I just honestly don't think you know what you're talking about.

So frustrating. My mom stopped going to church so she takes the 10% she used to give there and donates it to charitable causes. We have a neighbor who works w/o health insurance and got skin cancer .. gross hospital bills so she wrote him a huge check directly to him from that fund this year instead of charities. She's also organizing a drive for retired school teachers to donate school supplies to needy schools that don't have funding to supply their classrooms, yesterday she bought a bunch of crayons and glue for an art program.
To me it comes down to what kind of society we want to live in. Do we want to live in a society where the upper classes are enriched by the limited government intervention there is while poor people go with out health care and their children go with out art programs in school or do we want to live in a society that cares about things like that and pays for it by increasing the marginal tax rate on people earning > $200K/year by 3 percentage points?
There is class warfare going on ... and the poor are losing.
