i don't think elementary school is a good indicator of long-term achievement in the primary and secondary education systems.

You are underestimating what is taught in elem school. If my eight year old can multiply, he should be recognized imo.

that's because most schools don't offer opportunities for one to get ahead of one's class. skipping grades is almost frowned upon.

i remember in grade 1, my teacher would write like 20-digit numbers on the chalkboard and we would compete to identify them. also read chapter books before i started school. IMO.

I was asked if I wanted to skip grades when I was in 2nd grade. I didn't want to though. Those old guys in the 3rd looked scary and I had a gf that needed a lot of attention.
