- First off, we started the game 10 minutes late because at 5:30 when our kids were physically at their positions ready to start, they had 10 kids still at shortstop taking grounders while the two coaches were in right field working on pitching with the coaches' son.
- Before the game, Mark tried to make up new rules about the coach pitching aspect of the new rules...the same day the new rules are put into place. He wanted coaches to be able to pitch unlimited pitches to a batter after a "kid pitch" walk until the batter got a hit. Now, we had a pregame meeting with the umps about this but my dad and I were under the impression that he was just reiterating the new rules. We didn't understand his new rules until I protested that the last batter had just swung at his 5th strike in a row. After another discusion we decided to follow the rules as stated in your email.
- With one out in the top of the 2nd inning we were all wondering why there was no batter at the plate. He had taken the on-deck batter behind the backstop to work on his catching skills. After a 4-5 minute delay the kid had finally stripped off his gear and was up to bat.
- In the bottom of the 2nd he called time(?) and ran onto the field to physically position his 2nd basemen and SS correctly. My dad, coaching 1st base, told him he wasn't allowed to do that to which his reply was "well, maybe I'll go home then."
- His son pitched 2 innings, played SS for 2, and 1B for 2...none in the OF. Not that they would need him in the outfield because the right fielder played the position the entire game...and I'm sure he wasn't the only one to not get his 2 innings in the infield.
- After the last out was recorded in the bottom of the 5th his assistant coach ran onto the field to start the 1234 chant while our kids were running on the field to start the top of the 6th. My dad was helping our catcher get his gear so I walked over to Mark and asked if he thought the game was over. His reply was, "Well, our moms say its over and they want to go home so we're going to go ahead and call it." His second reply was that we had reached the time limit, but since we had started late due to his teams extended infield, we were still well within the rules to begin the 6th inning. His next reply was for me to go convince his moms to play. After another discussion with the umps we decided that we would indeed play the 6th inning.
Rereading this email back to myself it seems it might come off to some people as a rant by an over-involved little league coach. But I'm only writing this because the league really shouldn't be this way. The coaches, me and my dad included, MUST follow the rules so there aren't disagreements or bitterness between teams or coaches in the future.

They don't call it the Ghey Area for nothing...
Omit this sentence, it is beta.. even for Frisco.
"To sum his actions I find it incredibly ironic that a coach who is so eager to break, bend, or outright change the rules, in the end is so strict about the one rule that is advantageous to him. "
