We already have a microsoft example, linux. It is a much better os imho. It is stable and it works. It you want something fixed you have to do it yourself. MS does not develop its drivers, that is why MS even exists, that and government support. Hardware developers develop drivers for microsoft for free.

Sure, we have Linux. Even being free, it makes up 1-4.8% of the market. I think this point argues against yours.

What does MS not developing drivers matter? How are they supposed to develop drivers for something someone else makes? They don't develop them for Microsoft, they develop them for their hardware. If you want to be able to sell hardware, you pretty much need to have a way for your customers to use them. A vast majority of customers are using MS systems. So of course hardware manufacturers develop drivers. This is like saying car manufacturers are forced to put wheels on their cars because the roads are made of pavement.

Who cares about the desktop market these days? Linux is outpacing Microsoft in pretty much every other market (embedded systems, mobile devices, web technology stack etc.)
Linux guys don't even view Microsooft as competition anymore, say bashing them is like kicking a puppy

Maybe if you're talking about graphics cards or mice. If you're a hardware vendor building a router or a controller for a freezer, set top box, microwave, laundry machine or something the drivers will be written for you if you chose to use open source drivers.

Sure, Microsoft sucks at innovating, but that's more of them as a company rather than a business model.

Who is writing drivers for set top boxes other than the manufacturers?
