I'm afraid I'm thoroughly baffled at this point...

All I want to do is have a stat for the first 4 characters of a player's name.

But there are two different substring functions apparently, then there's player.player_name vs. str_player_name... I've tried every combination and nothing will validate...

Can anyone help?

There should be a player name short stat in the repository that works properly. For some reason you need to also use a variable that points to the column, otherwise the stat doesn't appear in the HUD list to pick from.
