i have a new computer and was wondering if there is a way to transfer my postgreSQL database from my old pc to my new one? appollogise if this is straight forward but i'm a bit thick with computers.

You will need to backup your database and then restore it onto the new computer.
Please see the Database / Postgres FAQ.

You can also just create a new DB and re-import your hands, of course..
