It seems that it is constantly getting disconnected, and I have to restart it. It seems to happen once every session and sometimes when i open PT3 it tells me it can not connect to the default database, once I restart Pastgresql then PT3 will open.

I currently trying to update to v3.07 beta but the database lost connection during the update!

What can I do to fix the issues?

PS running Postgresql 8.2 databse

PostgreSQL database issues!

What firewall do you use? Sometimes they can interfere with PostgreSQL, so please check our Firewall Guide guide.

Is there a reason that you need to use PostgreSQL 8.2? There have been significant improvements since then so if you are able to upgrade it would be a good idea.
If you want to do that you'll need to make a Backup of your database in 8.2 and then restore it when you have installed the new version of PostgreSQL. Personally I would choose the latest 8.3.x version although 8.4.x seems to work fine too.

Could you provide a link to upgrade to 8.3.x?

thanks

Sorry - you can follow the download link on www.postgresql.org.

Followed the link and followed the instructions for uninstalling and install PT3 guide.

I am at the initialize database cluster and I am stuck. I get the following:

The secondary logon service is not running. This service is required for the installer to inntialize the database. Please start the service and try again.

I thought I would try the other way it states where you uncheck initialize the database cluster when I do that and try I get the following:

Initdb warning The specified data directory does not contain an existing database cluster. Install without initializing a database cluster in this case will produce an installation that will not start.

Please help me.

I created a backup like you said. When I uninstalled the old 8.2 i chose to follow step the step to preserve the database because i did not want to accidently delete the databse i backed up.

okay I found this and it worked getting the install finished.

The secondary logon service is a standard windows service which is available on every windows computer. In the latest versions it is not started automatically. You need to start it via control panel > administrative tools > services > secondary logon > right-click > start AND right-click > properties > startup type: automatic.

Okay so I figured how to turn on Secondary logon and got the 8.3.x installed but now when i try and start PT3 I get an error connecting to default database. I have read through the firewall guide but i am not running any fire wall other than the xp one and it has never been a problem before.

Please advise.

It also will not let me select either of the two database. It will let me create a new one. I did that then tried to restore a backup of my database. said it was successful and that it needed to restart it just never it and then I was back to the error page when trying to log back in.

Did you post about this on the PT3 forums too?
You can't reconnect to the old databases from 8.2: 8.3 databases are different so you need to Backup in 8.2 and restore in 8.3 (or create a new DB in 8.3 and re-import your hands).

I did because, you give great answers usually in the am, and I had a problem in the pm so I thought someone could help me over there maybe.

Sorry if it caused any problems.

So i created a new database like you suggested. It said that completion was successful. I went to restore the back up i made, when the restore completed it said it needed to restart, I clicked okay and then the error connecting to a database came backup and the new database I just created was not even there!

What am I doing wrong now?

No, that's fine - I just wanted to check whether it was the same issue.
Is the restored database there?
In Database > Database Management click New and then 'Browse to existing database' - is the one you restored listed? If so, try connecting to it.

I can not even get into PT3 because the database i just created no longer exists, it seems to be gone after the restore was done.

When I open PT3 i get the some error in trying to connect to default database.

So i created another new database, went it database management>new> browse database and i get an error that reads: unable to login into database (template1) Reason: fatal: password authentication failed for user postgres

If you followed the directions in the install guide then the default password is dbpass, but otherwise you should know what password you used. If you're sure you're using the right one and it isn't working then you can remove the need for PostgreSQL passwords.

If that doesn't help please schedule a remote assistance session where someone can logon to your computer with you and directly troubleshoot/resolve the issue.

I did use the password dbpass when setting it up. The password on the database i am trying to restore is different since i set it up so long ago. Could that be the issue?

Okay I i got in and did the following In Database > Database Management click New and then 'Browse to existing database' - is the one you restored listed? If so, try connecting to it. The database i backed up is not listed.

I tried doing a restore and selecting the database i made a backup of. It says completed but when it restarts the database I justed created no longer is there and i am back at that error page and PT3 will not open!!

this is very frustrating to say the least.

It may be that the backup/restore mechanism doesn't work correctly with 8.2 - let me see if I can find out from the development team.
In the meantime, if you still have the hand history files the easiest solution will be to import them to a new database.

Backups should work in 8.2, I'm told.
If you haven't been able to recover things please schedule a remote assistance session where someone can logon to your computer with you and directly troubleshoot/resolve the issue.
