In almost every case that I've seen, Holdem hands are stored in the table holdem_hand_histories

I just looked at a database that has no records in the but thousands of records in the table "player".

I'm wondering if the holdem hands aren't in hand histories, where are they?

I looked at the schema documentation but couldn't find the information.

That is where the hand histories should be stored - the player table contains information on each player (id number, site id, name, name in lowercase, any aliases, hold'em icon, omaha icon and whether they have any notes). This can be populated with data without hands being imported if you import tournament results - any player with results is added to the player table but there are no hands for the player.
