I know you can network your computers from doing a search. However I'm starting to play a fair amount and my g/f's and obviously we are not on the same local network.

On the weekend, I didn't have a USB so I zipped the folder and emailed them to myself. However I'd prefer to have access to my entire DB when I play at her house.

Is there some way I can use an external drive? I've got 200k hands and I don't want to spend 14 hours importing every hand from my processed folder, only to have to do that everytime I go to her place.

There must be a solution.

Related issue so I did not start a new thread.

I am also figuring out how to setup multiple computer environment. I am hoping I might get feedback/pointer/help and that this post might provide same for others. If anyone tries these I would like to hear of your experience. I work within IT thou I am newbie with PT.

I have a laptop.
I have two desktop at different locations.

I prefer to use desktop.
I wish to use pokerev software that requires PT2.
I am planning to get PTomaha and/or PTstud.

I think PT3 supports database access over network.
Dose PT2 support this?

This would enable user to put database files on the laptop and use single database at both locations.

If PT2 (and stud and omaha) licence allow two user owned computers AND supports database over the net simple solution would be to put database on the laptop and carry the laptop with you.
With PT3 this would seem easiest way to do it.

I have already installed PT3 with postgres DB on one of my desktops.
Following would outline how I GUESS that using multiple databases might work. Please comment on feasibility of this if you have experience.

Following asumes that these steps are taken every time.
1. on the macine with new hands, COPY the handfiles to a second directory (say forexample ../my_old_loaded_handhistories/ )
2. on the machine with new hands, MOVE the hand files from loaded directory and put them on a usb dongle (or something else).
3. on second macine MOVE the files to import directory and start importing.
4. on the second machine MOVE the hand files from default directory to a second directory (say forexample ../my_old_loaded_handhistories/ )

After these steps:
Both database should have same info.
Both default PT loaded hand files directories should be empty (to prevent importing already imported hands)
On both machines second directory (say forexample ../my_old_loaded_handhistories/ ) should contain all the loaded handhistory files.

Please do give feedback if this was helpfull!

You can't just have your database on a drive and move it between 2 computers - postgres doesn't work like that.
You could backup/restore your database but that would be pretty long-winded. I think the best way to do it will be as you did - keep the hand histories and copy them across. You should be able to set it up so the processed files are moved to a folder and then you can just move the entire contents of that folder between computers and do a manual import.

Monsieur

You should certainly be able to set up using postgres on your laptop and PT3 on the other 2 computers, using your laptop as a server. PT2 will work the same way if you are using postgres databases - if not you can just copy the access database file (the .mdb file) to a shared folder on your laptop.

But I think that you can do this with postgres:
