Well my life pretty much revolved around poker. However, I like to go around trying the abundance of food choices, which obviously is currently not really an option as well as my favorite coffee shop every morning in the arts district. First Fridays were always fun too.

Other than food, I usually just keep to myself. Occasionally go for a stroll with a friend near container park/old part of the strip or Tivoli Village.

I think things have potentially changed more in Vegas than elsewhere. Granted economies are effected everywhere, but as far as lifestyle goes, Vegas is drastically different now.

Interesting times we are in, but things will return to some version of normal at some point, I hope...

People do all kinds of stuff in Vegas, but yeah, the Las Vegas Lifestyle really "isn't" right now, even if I'm lame and don't do much already.

Damn, should have gone in when I was on the better side of being up a Ferrari, down a Ferrari.

Yes!!

Life is better when republicans are in office

Vegas was blessed for decades to be a union town funded by tourists in a conservative low tax state.

Of the last 8 governors, going back 50 years, 4 have been Democrats, 3 have been Republicans and the other was Brian Sandoval, an incredibly popular true centrist ...

Nevada Unions can be more pragmatic politically than the knee-jerk partisan slant you seem to cherish. I worked with the Teamsters here and in DC, and did a fair amount of work on their political funding, including the 1980 Presidential election. (You couldn't swing dead cat in the union offices on the early 1980s without hitting Orrin Hatch or Ed Meese. Before that, I worked a while with the Teamsters pension funds, including in Nevada back in the 1970s and 1980s.

The best times for Nevada were when non-partisan interests joined together to look out for the State and its people. There was a huge difference between Paul Laxalt and Adam Laxalt to make the point. You should be glad, as a Nevadan that Sisolak won the last election, not the "train wreck".

Wow worked with the Teamsters pension fund in Vegas in the 70s and 80s and lived to tell about it.

Thinking of pragmatic politics, that is the Teamsters and Hoffa. After Hoffa supported JFKs election, his brother went after him with everything he had. The conspiracy theories of the mafia killing JFK as a favor to Hoffa are likely very true. Hoffa supports Nixon’s election and is in turn pardoned from prison by the Republicans.

I do not think the mafia killed JFK as a favor to Hoffa.

fwiw, Las Vegas was an interesting place to visit in the late 70s/early 1980s. The trendy "entertainment" was pretty much one club, Jubilation, owned by Paul Anka.

Yeah it’s a conspiracy theory, one that the more I hear about, it just seems more plausible.

I can imagine Vegas in the 70s and 80s had some really cool features. I also bet you could start your own thread on stories of the town from the 70s and 80s.

No. I was just a boring visitor from Chicago most of the times I was here. I favored the Dunes, and its back pool, which, iirc, had a big grass lawn. palm trees and cocktail service.

A couple of fictional accounts I would recommend however, for their attention to feel and detail would be Hoffa (Jack Nicholson, JT Walsh who totally nailed his character) and Casino (Robert DeNiro as Lefty Rosenthal)

Love the Danny Devito directed Nicholson Hoffa movie. Also agree JT Walsh was an extremely underrated actor. I’ve also seen Casino and read the book years ago before the movie came out. I always assumed Lefty’s car was blown up in the MSS parking lot across from the Fremont that Lefty managed and he was eating at the Tony Roma’s there as that’s where they filmed the scene.

Related the Irishman, read the book as well as the movie. Frank “The Irishman” in the book claims he was the hit man in the Hoffa killing and also knew for a fact the mafia was involved with the JFK killing and bay of pigs invasion.

Haven't seen the Irishman, nor read the book, I should because there were names in it that were familiar.
