WSOP + GF. Where should I stay? WSOP + GF. Where should I stay?

I'm going to be in Vegas from the 11th to the 18th, and plan to play in 2 WSOP events while I'm in Vegas. My GF is low maintenance for the most part, but she will be spending a good amount of time at the hotel. She has asked for one thing: A nice pool.

Willing to spend: Up to 1000 for the week.

I am Active Duty Military, and there are discounts at most places. There are also, of course, discount rates for the WSOP.

So far, Las Vegas Hotel (formerly Hilton) is looking like our best option.

Any help is greatly appreciated, thanks!

LVH is a very very bad choice imo. It is quite isolated (relative to most stuff) but the good news is you are waaay under budget on it.

MGM, Hard Rock and Mirage are coming in towards the top end of your budget, but still within budget. There are lots of worse places than that on the strip with prices all the way down to peanuts.

I'd say take a look at those ^^ hotel websites for pics of pool areas and see where GF would be comfortable, but I'd say Mirage has a very decent pool area, easy cab for you out the back of the hotel to Rio with no need to hit the strip.

If you plan on playing two wsop events why not just stay at the Rio? You should easily be able to stay within your budget. Good pool and you won't have to worry about getting to the Rio for the events.

Do you have a total rewards card (caesars properties)? If you do then log in and check what rates you are offered:

www.totalrewards.com

They are doing 25% off and some beverage credits. Caesars could be around $900-$1100 for your dates and will have by far the nicest pools, imo, for your budget

25% off entire stay through 9/12/2014. Plus $35 Food & Beverage credit per day. Based on availability. Must be 21 to check-in. Rates only available online.
Promotion Code : PSUM25

----

Or even if you dont have an account, check the rates, I am getting $1080 for those dates for caesars. You could well also get a comp upgrade by asking for one when you check in - look at the "$20 trick thread"

Is the Las Vegas Hotel really that bad?? They have a mono-rail to the strip and the place looks pretty nice. I was leaning towards LVH, but I'm definitely going to check out MGM, Hard Rock and Mirage.

Rio is off the strip so monorail doesn't help you. Palms has a decent pool and is very close to the Rio.

All you can do is look at the websites and decide which one suits you both the best. Youtube is a good source of info for clips of how things really are in and around the hotel you are considering.

Ultimately, if you ask 1,000 people, their tastes and viewpoints will be varied. LVH can be got for a very low price that week and if your GF likes the look of it, then that's all that matters. Without knowing either of you, it normally is smarter to make sure the GF is happy with it than making sure you are happy with it.. you are going off to play wsop and you want her smiling when you get back.

If $$ doesn't matter, I'd be surprised if anyone said LVH was better than Mirage however you slice it. If the $$ does matter, or your GF really wants the LVH, then that's where you should go.

Avoid LVH at all costs. Rio wsop promo or Gold Coast imo

Monorail stops at Ballys. Ballys has a free shuttle to the Rio. It's actualy more convenient than Caesars.

Unless you cab it.

This

Mirage, Caesars and Venetian all have nice pools areas and in a good location on the strip not far from the Rio.

Mirage gets a bit crowded and tougher to find a good chair unless your wife is an early riser.

I would say the Venetian is you best bet although the least expensive of the three properties is the Mirage.

The MGM has an excellent pool area, easy to get a spot, and is probably within your budget. Its location is a little further down from the main part of the strip where Venetian and Mirage are but it might be worth a look. It is also on Monorail route.

Did I say completely avoid the LVH and ignore their wonderful pictures.

Check the Marriott website and the government military rate. Cosmo is an option and they sometimes honor the military rate ($92.00 per day). You might have to call Marriott reservations to get it. Personally, I'd do the signature at MGM if you can't get the Military rate at Cosmo. You can get a room for about $90.00 S-T and $130 on Friday and Saturday. The Marriott Grand Chateau is nice but the pool is small. You can usually get it for the military rate as well.

The Hyatt has a relationship with MGM so you might be able to get the military rate by calling Hyatt reservations. The good thing is that MGM will match what ever level you are with Hyatt. My diamond status with Hyatt got me Platinum with MGM.

R&R, thanks for giving great advice on the actual questions. So far I've eliminated LVH based on several people crapping on it. Looking over options now. It's pretty funny that I knew 2+2 would be my best resource... just ahead of Google.

As someone who pops into the LVH sportsbook from time to time, I'll defend LVH a bit. It isn't THAT bad but the location is definitely a problem nowadays. LVH is more of an old school resort - it was built in the late 1960s and I honestly don't think it has been remodeled/updated a ton since then. If your GF is into the "happening" pool scene w/younger beautiful people, LVH ain't it. If she just wants to be by herself and not bothered by partyers, it figures to be a perfect place for her.

LVH has the best overall race and sportsbook for bettors in Las Vegas and the best NFL viewing setups on Sundays. But these won't come into play for you. So, as others above have stated, LVH probably isn't the optimum location for what you want to do based on what you posted...but may work for someone else.

Nickle

Because of your nice reply I will add this.

On balance, regarding the pools I referred to earlier, the MGM with 5 different pools areas including the quiet adult pool areas, the Wet Republic party pool, and the lazy river area used most often by families probably offers the best options. It really is a big pool property only surmounted by the Mandalay Bay.

The MGM and Mirage are very comparable in price with the Venetian being about 20% higher on average. Rates can vary between them by dates so it's best check out all 3 using the same dates to get an actual cost comparison.

Use Google for coupon code for better Mirage or MGM rates.

Flamingo has a nice pool and is low budget

LVH is doable if you have a car imo

Your GF can probably get into any pool she wants

The Flamingo is generally low cost but:

the pool gets way to crowded and is mainly party pool. The non party "family pool" is really small and not much of a pool.
