It sounds like the are having to adopt the standard KYC/ID+V laws that apply to financial institutions, e.g. Opening a bank account.
Beware that if you are from the UK, just providing your driving license is not going to be enough. Passport for ID and DL for address verification is fine, but DL for both ID and address verification is not.

The new rule seems fair enough and the WSOP is only following marching orders. If you read the article,it says recommend not absolutely must. I would think this would be easy to,achieve in the day and age of internet service.

Except it could have been announced two months ago - not a few days prior to the event starting.

Some people left Europe a while back and have nightmares of turning up with a hurriedly scanned copy of a bill emailed over and having it rejected by some 19 yr old jobs worth cashier and costing potentially hundreds of thousands of dollars.

You think the WSOP knew about this two months ago and decided to wait until now to announce it?

At worst, I would think they will give you adequate time to get you id together if you cash. The money isn't going anywhere and I am sure it will be held in safekeeping.

It's not a great situation but there is no point in getting overly worked up about it.

This sounds like another case of holding a "World Series" and making it difficult for the rest of the world to compete

I just regged for tomorrow's 1k. I wasn't asked for additional ID. When I asked why, because they have my info from last year they didn't need it. Sounds like it's not as bad as first thought.
