It took a while for rake to go from $4 to $5, but once they made that move, they moved it up from $5 to $9 really quickly. It will be interesting to see how high the rake goes before it isn’t profitable for them. If $6+$3 works, then why not $7+$4? Or $8+$5?

$9 a hand... so that's like what, $110+ off the table every hour?

Depending how much action there is, but probably closer to double that.

30 hands an hour? Even at 25 hands an hour that's the Black Hole of Rake.

10% rake up to $68 dollars.

2 million dollars in free drawings a month.

You think people would still play?

I like the part where they say "During March, we're giving away more money so we're taking more promotional dollars. Oh, and we're also taking more for ourselves too."

I mean, going from 2 to 3 on the promotional drop is to fund the promotion but... Going from 5 to 6 on the rake is for... ? For the privilege of playing somewhere with such good promotions? I guess?

$9 drop? wtf?

If the typical reg averages 2 winning hands per hour, that's $10 less per hour win rate (compared to $4 rake). Plus the live ones will go broke faster and the games will be tougher on top of that. You better win some of that promo money or you're in for a bad year.

even this wsop for plo venitian often had very short waiting lists while wynn and aria were 2-3 hours long. but i guess i should have wasted 3 hours waiting for a game to really show the scumbag Sheldon who is boss.

so yes if you're a 1/2 nl grinder and you have a million options it's easy to pat yourself on the back and take a moral stance against this place. i'll be sure to think about how morally superior you guys are the days I play plo at Venetian this june.
So if a few enterprising fellas approached a struggling card room with empty tables asked them to regularly spread 5/10 and/or 10/20, and they promised to spread the word, the card room would refuse to spread those games? I doubt it, and they might even talk the card room into a more favorable time charge.

12 hands per hour? Where do you play? Even at half full rake per hand they will clear that easy.

I was being conservative with the estimate, Price is Right style. I assume that several hands finish before the river so the rake isn't maxed each hand
whatever it is, $150 coming off the table every hour sounds like a game I don't want to get involved in

It's closer to 35 hands per hour with a shuffling machine and an efficient dealer. If one estimates 15 hands at full rake, 15 hands at half rake, and 5 hands at no rake, then it's closer to $240 per hour coming off the table (15*(5+4) + 15*(3+4)=240). Half of that the Venetian keeps and the other half goes towards the promos.

wtf $9. I edited the thread title.

And "Thank You for Your Support." The Venetian has now become a charity organization.

Just chiming in to say I live in Atlanta, where the closest casinos are are Cherokee (3 hours), or Tunica/Biloxi (7+ hours), or Jacksonville/Tampa.

All we have are underground games, and the city-wide standard is 10% capped at $10, + $1 for the bad beat

Yes it sucks, but if the economics dictate that the action is there, then the games are still beatable.

Yes, the economics are there because it's the only game in town. The game is beatable because mostly fools are in the games, and the few good players are making way more than they could in average games in legal areas with that rake (where the best they could do is break even). What's a good win rate there--$5/hour in 1/2? As the players get better (assuming they have the money to survive that rake), the games will become unbeatable unless there is a countless supply of new fools.

$9 rake/promos ??

I live in Las Vegas and played the V as the room with generally the most $1-3 tables running (after searching Bravo for closer rooms with active tables.) I am a rec player who looks for entertainment value, but seriously, come on !!!

Count me out ..... I do not think I can afford a $9 rake for the entertainment afforded.

Watching an extra $150/hr or so disappear from the table, instead of some of that landing in my stack, is disheartening, not entertaining...... especially late night with no new money arriving to replace it.

No reason to play the V at this point, unless I happen to be attending a conference at the Sands (like G2E).

It’s March so this should have started, and according to Bravo the room is packed with 22 tables, which makes it the busiest room in town right now.

Beatable for how much though? Some regs seem to think games are beatable no matter what the rake is. Honestly it sounds more profitable grinding it out at McDonalds.

Bad choice. Apparently the McDonald's contests were rigged for years.

According to the FBI:

“From 1989 to 2001, there were almost no legitimate winners of the high-value game pieces in the McDonald’s Monopoly game. I mean, how crazy-bullshit is that?”

That’s FBI Special Agent Doug Mathews’s assessment of the $24 million fraud scheme that’s the focus of HBO’s new documentary McMillion$. "

https://www.vulture.com/2020/02/mcdo...rue-story.html

Not that the McDonalds' game wasn't already rigged: "Jacobson discovered that Simon Marketing had rigged the game so nobody in Canada could win it".

$3,200 comes back every hour with 4 winners. That’s a whole lot of extra money in play and deeper stacks on the table.

Not sure how the payouts work in March, but in Feb. a high hand winner had the option of pocketing the cash or leaving it on the table.

I saw no one leave the jackpot winnings on the table.

If you want deeper stacks walk over to the Encore where the buyins are higher and hundreds of dollars over a few hours gets to stay in the players stacks instead of going to the rake.

It’s almost always going to another table anyway. And even when it does go to your table, I wouldn’t be surprised to see the player get up and leave.
