parm looks really nice, but that's a lot of food TJ - I'd be in a coma after all that. Are you still awake??

Literally all I’d eaten today before that were those two sopas, so I was pretty hungry.

I know it’s not the healthiest…. But especially when I’m traveling, I tend to eat two big meals a day instead of 3 normal-sized meals.

Especially as a healthcare worker, I make lots of remarkably poor personal health choices.

Well we desperately need to get you to esters kitchen or a few other Italian joints that will blow that chicken parm out of the water.

I don’t mind that structure tbh. I’ve been dropping some weight for the past 6 weeks and I’ve done that - fast til 12, then medium sized meal. Snack at 3 ish and then main meal at 7 after I train. Works pretty well

There will always be another game tomorrow.
And it seems to really annoy people when you beat them with 2 pair.

My goal for tomorrow is to play better at cash games, and get in a good meal or two.
There's always the option to split the difference and play a Daily Deepstack.

Took a beating today, -1559 in the after dinner session to make it -2700 on the day. I don’t care who you are, that’s too big a big number to drop in a day.

I played bad, I ran bad, I chose to play and keep playing in a bad game, and I didn’t pick up when I knew recovery was hopeless. All the things I said I wouldn’t do up top.

So I’m down, but not out. Not feeling sorry for myself. That won’t be helpful if I have to decide whether to get KK in over a 4bet tomorrow.

Tomorrow I’m going to go to Red Rock. I’ve never been there before, so I want to check it out. My favorite Vegas Thai place Lotus of Siam has a new location there. And they have a 1/3 game, where I can get back to basics, and fundamentals.

Til tomorrow.

Hang in there and dont be too hard on yourself. We have all been there, making bad poker/gambling decisions for whatever reasons.

Red Rock is a cool joint, and some change in scenery is always good.

Chin up my friend! Do the opposite of what you indicated in the second paragraph.

"Tomorrow I’m going to go to Red Rock. I’ve never been there before, so I want to check it out. My favorite Vegas Thai place Lotus of Siam has a new location there. And they have a 1/3 game, where I can get back to basics, and fundamentals."

In one of the previous trips, I stayed in an AirBNB that was owned by a Real Estate Agent, a very nice gentleman.

In the morning, during the social hour, we would chat up about all thing's poker. He indicated that if you are a local you visit the rooms like Red Rock or South Point instead of the strip properties.

He said, I was so hyped-up after our poker discussions, I went and played yesterday and lost a buy-in. I said sorry to hear that, how did that happen? He said he got it in against a player with a set on the flop and got flushed by the river. I told him you made the right decision to get it in against a draw, whether you are a local or a tourist, the variance in poker doesn't really discriminate.

My advice to you, enjoy the Thai food and don't flush the locals by river at Red Rock

I’m at Red Rock… it’s a nice enough place, too bad it’s so far from the strip and not convenient to other stuff.

Unfortunately Lotus of Siam doesn’t open for two more hours, at 4 pm.

So I’m on the 3-person list for 1/2. The average age of players on a Monday definitely skews older…. I can see this place being popular with retirees and locals.

Gonna play tight, and in position!

Mood: it’s raining in the desert, wtF.

-1000 at Red Rock. I got up to 1.2k winning a nice 3bet pot, then this hand comes up. I open Ts8s to 20, the player to my left was tilting and 3betting a lot makes it 80. I call, flop 9d-7h-3d. I check, he continues for 70, I check/raise to 185. He calls, turn is the Tc, so I continue for 245. He thinks and calls again, and the river is a 3rd diamond, a K. I check, and he checks back and wins with AK…. Guess he knew it was coming.

Lotus of Siam opened right on time at 4 pm, but I kept playing, in an ok game, with a 3bet deepstack monkey on my left. I was sitting on 700, and I didn’t want to rack up down 300, so I (sensibly) waited until I went broke instead. An hour later, he 3bets me again with 99, we get it in on an 8-6-6 flop, and his JJ is good.

So now I’m finally eating.

yes the poker room there day vs. night is vastly different...it's literally a retirement home in the morning to early afternoon

was there on saturday night and the room was jam-packed (WSOP crowds do extend to the Red Rock). I gave up on waiting for a seat at $1/2 NL after about 30 minutes *welp*...

hope u did well there today

So I’m in a pretty foul mood, but I feel better after eating. The new Lotus is a real nice place:

I started with a Thai ice tea, and the chicken sa-tay app, which is chicken skewers with a creamy peanut sauce

I have a great Thai place that I love going to back home, so I wanted to make sure I got something here I couldn’t get at home. I’m sure the drunken noodles, pad Thai, or the pad see ew are great here… but I want something unique.

Lotus specializes in Northern Thai cuisine. It’s hard to find a good duck dish, so I got the Khao Soi with crispy duck.

It’s crispy duck over noodles in a red curry/coconut milk creamy sauce, and it was good. The duck tastes like it’s in between chicken and turkey, and the skin is thin but crispy like paper. The sauce was great too!

As my best friend who’s reading this reminds me, even a bad day in Vegas is better than an average day for everyone back home at work!

Now at the Wynn, 8th on the list for 1/3. I’ve got one more $500 bullet for the day… and if the game sucks, I’ll rack up and try again tomorrow.

Even if I’m down a bit.

sick play by him calling flop and turn with A high and then checking river when he hits the 6 outer

Finished that session at the Wynn -474. At least I DID pick up the last $26 of it

I 3bet a late position open with JJ from the SB, he calls and it comes down A-K-Q rainbow. Something something “range advantage,” so I continue and he calls. We check/check the 7 turn and 7 river, and his KsTs is good. Maybe I can turn my hand into a bluff on the river, but I don’t think trying to make people fold pairs is very good.

The big hand is I open KsKh to 18, a lady in the SB calls. It comes down 7h-6h-2d, and she check/calls my healthy cbet. Turn is the 5h, she quickly glances at her chips and bets out, $60. Well, I don’t love it, but I do have the Kh, so I call. River 7s, and her hand shakes as she tosses out one black chip. I call too quickly and lose to AhJh. Two more big value bets called when I’d made a read, and put money in completely 100% dead on the turn.

Not much point in having years of poker experience and dutiful observation of live tells, if you don’t have the courage to act on them.

So I went home early-ish, slept it off, and we’ll try again on a new day, today.

Found a wallet in the back seat of my Uber, I told the driver and we were able to return it to the guy.

Immediate seating into 1/3 at the Wynn, maybe it just might be my day after all!

Nope, 3rd hand I lose my first 500 bullet, JJ > 77 on J-9-7.

Welp, can’t do anything about that.

In the words of the immortal tuff_fish, “just fk me to gd TEARS”

Hopefully this 2nd bullet goes better.

there are still some cheap places with normal prices. 4 chipotles on the strip (one next to harrah's is gross) earl of sandwhich in PH, in and out on the linq promenade. Grande Luxe in venitian is really good and fairly priced. But overall yea food is way more expensive than 10 or so years ago.
