Confirmed by dealers and staff, unfortunately Southpoint’s rake will be the same as Venetians 5+2 effective June 1st.

This is going to hurt their games a good amount in my opinion especially when Orleans just matched their buy in structures with 2-3 nl 600 max and 3-5 nl 1500 max with $1 less rake (5+1)

Many regs complained a lot yesterday about this and mentioned bringing their business to Orleans for the popular 2-3 nl game.

It is just business. The players should be glad the management let the low rake go as long as they did.

This is just a simple business decision. The players shouldn't take it personally. It is surprising that management let the cheap rake go as long as they did.

That's just taking more promo drop which is given back to the players. It will South Point more options as far as different and more lucrative promos or at least I hope.

The previous rake at South Point was 4+2. So the increase is to the raw rake itself and not the promo drop.

For the 1/2 players, the impact is somewhat lessened, as there are going to a reasonable % of pots that won't reach $50.

They probably won't take it personally, but they probably aren't driving halfway to California if they get the same game at Orleans.

The players need to take their business to where they're treated best.

My apologies. For some reason, I thought they were $5+$1 and went to $5+$2.

Regardless, $5 for the rake portion has been standard at every place in town besides South Point and Orleans so it's not unreasonable.

That’s only sort of true though. South Point runs 2 or 3 freerolls every year so if it’s not your regular room then you won’t get as much back. I think they take $2 so they can run the freerolls and offer extra promos that players might like.

I think it used to be $4+$1 a few years ago. I wonder what it will be a few years from now. Maybe something like $7+$3 and offer more promos with the $3 to attract players? And people will say the rake is reasonable because other places take more.

MGM casinos did this a few years ago. Raised the rake to $5 during the WSOP when they knew the rooms would be full.

I am not sure anything could hurt SP's games... that Crusty old player pool is an institution and wont be moving anytime soon.

Orleans is 5+1? I thought the last I heard it was something like 4+3 or so. I know they have had more than a one dollar promo drop for years, I can't imagine they would drop it back down.

Yeah, they couldn't run the dozen promos they have going with just a buck.

I'm sure it's mostly people that live in the area anyways. No one is driving across town to play at SP and no one that plays there is going to drive to the Orleans or whatever other room to save a buck on rake when it's going to cost you more in time and gas. Of course the regs in any room will complain if rake goes up but at the end of the day hardly any will switch rooms and unless it's a tiny room with only a few tables running the bottom line isn't going to suffer by the few who do.
