Arguably this does make sense, given the number of card rooms in SoCal and the fact that the nightlife and lifestyle are significantly different, especially given the entertainment industry.

This probably turns into a slippery slope soon, though.

Could we start a Waukegan, Illinois Lifestyle Thread?! We're diverse from SoCal and Vegas! We have a Shakey's Pizza, home of the Bunch-a-Lunch!"

I wouldn't mind a thread with this topic. I'm in the process of trying to move from the east coast to SoCal, so this would work out great.

Im super down, we have plenty of card rooms down here from L.A with Commerce, Oceanside with Oceans 11, and San diego with Palomar card room, Barona, Viejas etc. Although a majority are 18+ so if you don't like playing with a younger crowd than it's probably not your scene. If you do mind playing with a younger crowd than the geezer limit games are for you It would be cool though to talk and connect about our lifestyle here in the best part of the country.

Not correct. Only 18+ places are a few Indian casinos. And I'd say the average age in the NL games I play at Commerce/Bike is easily 40+.

I'd give tourneys to Vegas. The big series' are comparable between the two, but the addition of WSOP plus the somewhat better quality of daily tourneys gives it to Vegas.

A lot of forum websites have regional sub-forums. It makes get-togethers, home games(yes, I know there's a home game forum), talking about when the WPT comes to town, etc a lot easier. Especially when most people only frequent a couple forums.

All for this as I live in SoCal but go to Vegas 8-10 times a year. And like they say, Im not a local, Im orig from UK. And I play poker pretty much full time so I guess I have a perspective.

One thing I find it much easier to win playing cash games in Vegas especially low stakes as most players are tourists and dont mind losing a few hundred bucks having a go at poker. This seems esp true during big events like NCAA or CES show.

Whereas guys who go to the poker rooms in soCal all think they are great players and hate losing their money.

Another issue is the traffic in LA....hate it!!!

As someone who has lived in both Vegas and LA, I had an interesting discussion at the tables in Vegas with someone who I have played with for years in both towns. While he used to play more in LA, family circumstances have him currently settled for the most part in Vegas. He remarked to me that if it wasn't for those circumstances, he would be in LA in a second. He further stated that while $1-$2 NL games are fairly soft in Vegas, the same can't be said of any game above that level. Now granted that no real counterpart exists in LA to the Vegas $2-$5 NL game (maybe the $5-$5 NL game I guess), can any argument be made that games at $5-$10 NL and above are softer in Vegas than in LA? In the case of the former, only a handful of rooms run games that high and only a few tables. And they are filled with the same 20 miserable, local f*cks who butt heads all day with each other waiting for the handful of tourists who have enough money to donk off at those games.

Then again, I don't think anyone who wants to win in the long run has any business playing in LA under the stakes I described above. The capped buy-ins and horrible rake make those games basically unbeatable. $1-$2 blinds with a $40 buy-in, $2-$3 with $100 and $3-$5 at $200 - give me a break! I always found it funny when LA tourists would roll into Vegas and tell stories of how they play these games for a "living". These guys would be good for at least a couple of buy-ins.
