Day 4 end, Day 5
Dinner is at Mizumi... I've had a lot of Japanese in the last couple of months and would have preferred the steakhouse, but friends are from Indiana, and thus have a) access to all the great beef they could want and b) essentially zero access to quality Japanese so this is a non-brainer.
I managed to get about 1/2 the pics here. Overall, food was decent. I made some poor choices in the interests of trying new stuff.
Tempura udon, standard 8/10. They did us the courtesy of dividing into two bowls for me and my wife without asking (but which we wanted).
Spicy yellowtail and tuna handrolls. Yellowtail was an 8/10, tuna 7/10.
Spicy tuna roll (7/10) and albacore?, ordered by friends. Albacore was a poor choice IMO, maybe a 5/10 at best.
Oh toro sashimi, maybe 6/10 today. Too thick and slightly too cold.
I can't remember what this was exactly, I want to say a scallop roll? The sauce was too sweet and didn't add anything, and the wrap (which was made of soy or something) wasn't good. 2/10. Do not order.
After dinner- the final VP session of the last full day we'll have!
We actually manage to make a draw come in.
Need these random bolts of lightning.
Overall, this was just another cold session. I think I ended up stuck 3k for the session.
Day 4 result- -7.5k
overall- -2.5k
Day 5
In standard last day fashion, I manage to sleep until almost 7. My wife and I need to head to the airport around 10:30. I KNOW I should keep sleeping- there's no reason to play, I'm booking a small loss, and I'm probably going to force a bigger loss.
I can't stop thinking about how much I was up at some point. Also keep thinking about the dealt quad 2s, the resulting 5 figure hit, and the fact that I'M STILL DOWN in spite of it all! That gets me up fast- last chance for a last comeback!
I give myself 2k total for the day. I recognize that going home <5k loser is actually a good result in general.
Third hand in, I am dealt 5 cards, suited, connected, that include a 10, jack, queen and king...
If this is not the slap of all slaps in the face, I don't know what is.
I sit and stare at it for a bit. The wonder of it all. There's no question I'm keeping the straight flush, but I'm just lamenting that 9. It just doesn't get any closer than that. Sigh.
Hold. "Draw". Pick up the 2500 and move on. I text my friend the pic, he of course asks if I considered going for the royal, and I explain that everything I do is based off of avoiding tilt. If I break up that straight flush and miss, I'm getting banned from the Wynn (because my fist would go through the machine). EZ play. The EV decision just makes it easier.
I dump that back in in short order. Then, we hit another draw-
Get paid. Dump it back in. Repeat.
We're meeting our friends at Tableau for breakfast. My wife has packed us up, so we're basically ready. I take a 1k profit for that AM session.
I've always been underwhelmed by Tableau, mostly by their selections. Typically nothing sounds particularly interesting. This time, I elect to go with some special corned beef hash or something.
CUE ANOTHER MEAL WITH NO PICS.
However, the dish was AMAZING. Highly recommend to anyone. Eggs were perfectly cooked, and the hash was very flavorful. Just the right amount of arugula on the side to get some veggies in, and just the right amount of some kind of spicy sauce. Everything went well with everything else. I'd give it a 9/10 and will definitely order it again.
Post breakfast, I actually have about an hr before we need to leave. Wife STILL needs to use up the shopping credit and my friends want to play blackjack. I head back to the machines for what is now truly the "last hurrah".
Dump the 1k back in lightning fast, then am DEALT QUADS AGAIN, for I don't know how many times this crazy roller coaster trip. Is the save assured?
Ahh, my old friends the 8s. How I hate you so.
SO. SO. SO. pissed (relatively speaking). 8s. OF COURSE.
Give almost all of that back- my wife texts me. She's done shopping. I tell her I'll wait for her by the machine, when she shows up we'll head up to the room together then it's goodbye Vegas. As she walks up, I'm given a lifeline-
My wife and I root together. Hit draw.
Result-
So f'ing pissed. I think I got dealt trip aces about 20 times and only 1 draw came in. So I'm 1/200 where I should be 1/22.5. I confess I punched the machine after this, and ended up with a nice cut on my finger and a bruise that swelled for my trouble.
So stupid. Insta-cash out, head to room to grab bags/check out, text my friends so we can say goodbye.
I actually ended up slightly positive that last day, I believe 1k? Feels like I lost 50 grand the way things went. Ugh.
Day 5 result- +1k
Overall- -1.5k
By the time we're in the cab to the airport, I'm feeling better. Reason we needed to leave so early? Once we get back home, it's go home, grab car and depart immediately for my son's birthday at
We're going to be exhausted, but they're only kids once. We might not win the parents of the year award, but we're doing a pretty good job all things considered. It's all a reminder to me that there's more to life than booking a win in Vegas.
I start arranging the next trip with my friends later that week, and book my tickets for the next Vegas trip the week after. Coming soon!
Thanks for reading.
