Vegas Oct 2016 Day 1
So to clarify, this trip already happened. I've been home now for about a week.
Flew in on a Wed afternoon and my parents picked me up at the airport. We elected to head straight to Red Rock to play- obv I'm down, and my dad has been itching to play all day.
It's a pretty far walk from the garage to where Dream Card is located, but we finally find it.
So it begins...
I'm trying to determine the denom I want to play; I know I'll be betting double credits, and the variance is going to be sick. I decide 5 lines, 50c credits is right- the same bet/push as when I'm playing 5 line, 1$ credits at the Wynn, each premium hand will be worth 1/2 as much but I should hit them more often, etc.
The first 1000$ is devoured in 5 min, I **** you not.
Sick. Ok, let's scale this back a bit. Mentally I had prepared myself to "only" lose 3k on the first day. I move down to 25c credits, 5 lines. Meanwhile, my dad can't hit anything either.
I play for a while- I hit quads 2s w/kicker drawing from trips, but otherwise nothing and I never get dealt the fabled "premium trips" or "4 to a royal" then the dream card. I'm now stuck 2k and pretty frustrated. I decide to move to 10 lines, 25c credits and pretty soon get dealt this-
OK, that helps a bit- but where are the premium quads? Put that money back into the machine, and get this-
Rinse, repeat. I got dealt non-premium quads one more time and didn't even bother to snap a pic. It's dinner time, I'm ravenous and stuck 3k, and my dad is stuck almost 8k. We decide to go to the BBQ place.
I get the ribs + fried chicken, side of greens and fries. It was decent- I've had some pretty high quality BBQ in my life and am generally underwhelmed- the sauce is usually too sweet, the meat is ho hum, etc. There is no place in SD to get decent BBQ, for example. This place is better than any place in SD- still not that good, but I'd come back. I'd give it a 7/10. My dad got a big bowl of gumbo which seemed alright and mom got a full rack of ribs and ate maybe three LOL.
After dinner, we decide to play more. Screw it, we're here, it's a far drive from my parents' place and we're probably not coming back. Plus we haven't reaped any benefit from the DC (but been raped for it repeatedly).
I put in another 2k at 10 line, 25c and get destroyed. I'm getting draws, I'm getting the DC, just nothing is coming in. I must have drawn at trip aces at least 100 times total and didn't turn one into a quad. Same story with 2,3,4s. My dad also gets drilled and loses over 10k. We are DONE with this ****ing place- oh well. The idea of DC is great but with the beating I took (at 25c credits!) and how far away it is, I can't see us coming back any time soon.
We go back to my parents and I'm still itching to play. Quite frankly I feel robbed- stuck 5k, basically didn't make any hands... I suppose I'll head over to the Wynn!
Ahh, I love this place. Love walking in from the parking garage- just a few min from my favorite machines, and I get to walk by the (old) poker room, where I have a few decent memories from my poker playing days. It's not quite the same without the Ferrari store anymore, but oh well...
Here is the main result from that session-
I hit no hands. I'm stuck another 2K, 7K total. What a great start. I head back to my parents with my tail between my legs.
Day 1 result: -7K
Day 2- a new beginning...
I go to bed around 11pm and aim to sleep in until at least 8am, knowing I need the rest. Vegas fever, of course, kicks in like a MF and I wake up for good at 7am. My parents are up and we make breakfast, then I decide I'm going to the Wynn for a morning session.
View of the Wynn/Encore from my parents' balcony- the skyline and view isn't the same with all the construction and changes. Still, Vegas...
I put 100$ into "my" machine and it takes it in a minute. Put another 100$ in, and get the result I'm looking for...
To be continued...
