Bad area? Looks not too far from the strip and near a country club.

Have you considered taking a 2 day vacation out here during the week on a cheap flight, booking a cheap room, and getting a $35 rent a car to check out a few places first hand? I did this 1 month before I made the move out, didn't gamble nor play poker at all, just looked at places I saw on craigslist and local apt guides. Total, I spent $145 (round trip from BWI->LAS in early January), $82 (2 nights at the Excalibur w/ Resort fees & taxes), $70 (Hyundai Elantra rental from Enterprise). That $400 "screening" trip made things way easier when I decided to pack up and make the drive out.

I have been to Vegas before, so I kinda know what I'm in for. Often times neighborhoods (anywhere) can seem fine during the day and then be sketchy at night, so I am not sure how good my judgement would be. Likely you guys know more than I could tell by visiting. Also, I figure if I am in a month to month situation, after a couple months I can just move.

Wow, this thread is nearly 72 hours old and not a single "In before tunnels".

2016 has brought us a gentler and kinder LVL!

being in close proximity to las vegas blvd is a rich man/poor man scenario.

there's about one square mile where it would be great to live. outside of that, the farther away you can get from the strip, the better.

I've seen that area on Cops multiple times.

This is the winning advice. You need to see the area for yourself. Blocks around the Strip can be hit and miss. The advice you get from others isn't going to be perfect. What I consider terrible might be acceptable to you and vice versa.

I have a friend that lives in the apartments just behind and slightly east of Hooters. It is nice but it has airport noise. Those are the kinds of things you need to see and hear for yourself before making such an important decision.

Keep in mind anything in the blocks east of the Strip will be at the end of a runway. If it were me, I would look down towards South Point.

The other option is to plan on spending a week finding a spot upfront. That'll save a trip.

I should have mentioned that I am currently a 7 hour drive away. So really it's just a question of getting some things sold and I am going to drve out. I guess I will do a weekly place to start with, and spend the first week exploring my options. If I like the place I am at I can stay, or if not I can move.

Only 7 hours away? ****, gas is cheap these days. Just drive out for a weekend and drive around to look at apartments. Get a place at a cheap off-strip motel to crash for a couple days.

While you certainly CAN move after a month, that is just more hassle than is necessary. Do your legwork before committing to anything.

I second the advice of coming out for a long weekend or a week and having a look at options yourself. I don't understand people making such a huge life decision such as moving without some basic research outside of asking the internetz on the forums.

OP I am moving out there in late Feb and am going to stay in hotel for 4/5 days just driving around and getting acclimated to the area. Within the first few days I'm sure I'll have a good idea on what works and then go from there. I would recommend the same idea for you. Nothing beats the old eye test

I was just at my local casino, where i got the number of a guy I know, works floor at at the Orleans won a 50 inch flatscreen TV. Fit in the trunk of my old car with room to spare. Won $35 on the session too.

Ya know besides the convertible classic car ... Brand new 50 inch TV, maybe makes me a more desireable roomate.

So, plan now is call my old friend. See what he has to say about if he can get me a job. Might also know a place I can stay for cheap.

I been binge watching Entourage.

I particularly like the open with the 65 Lincoln. Looks a lot like my car, but it's a 2 door.

Shouldn't eveyone do that once in their life, at least? Drive into Vegas in a classic with the top down?

Harbor apartments it's right next to hard rock it's like .4 miles from the strip all utilities included plus direct tv. I don't know what the rent is. It looks like a old motel. 702- 732- 9111. I was walking home from hard rock last week and thought of your post. Good luck

If that is the place I am thinking of on Harmon, then I have driven by there a ton. Looks decent from the street but there are always cops in the parking lot for some reason or the other and there was a shooting or 2 there if I remember right.

lots of reviews here, lots of cockroaches too.
