Funny you should mention that.

On Tuesday afternoon I was on the tram from Park MGM/Aria to Bellagio, and there was a sudden thunderously loud noise and I thought surely something was exploding.

Found out slightly later that it was the military jet flyover before the Stanley Cup game.

Wow dig this sounds like a ton of fun for the kids, the young one loves construction vehicles right now for sure. Let me research and get back to you! Thank you for that and all the recommendations.

Do you book your full trip through Delta, i.e. LAS to destination via LAX? If yes, you're able to check-in for the full trip from LAS and shouldn't have to pick up your luggage at LAX which saves a decent amount of time. That also means if you miss the connection flight it's Delta's problem.

Otherwise 3 hours is still plenty of time and actually what's recommended. So if your flight to LAX is on time, everything should work out even though you have to pick up your luggage and re-check it with the new airline and do the whole security thing. If your flight is delayed an hour+ you might be in trouble though. I don't think LAX is as bad as O'Hare when it comes to wait times and amount of time you spent walking from point A to point B but based on my international travel experience everything still takes significantly longer than at LAS.

A weird change of circumstance might have me staying at the Rio for part of the WSOP next week. I know, I know, but it's a long story.

Given the traffic and road eff-ups, what's the best route to the WSOP, short of driving to California and hanging a U-turn?

I'm driving myself. I wasn't actually looking for directions, more a report on road conditions with all the F1 work, and which roads are the most clear.

The work on the strip is done for now. This innovative company called google has a maps app that will tell you the best route and considers traffic as well.

yeah... strip work is pretty much finished, they are past koval now.

are you into walking?

For me I would park at Caesars and walk to the HS (this is what I do if I can not get into the Bell).

you can get into Caesars from the backside and self park there for free with pearl+.

go out the backside of Rio to Twain and go straight under the 15 fwy and turn right on Frank Sinatra and 1/2 block to a left into Caesars self park area.

it's less than a 10 minute walk if you scurry along quickly.

going east on Flamingo is a biatch right now... even though it is a straight shot.

Sounds like a good way to avoid Strip traffic but is it really worth the effort if you have to walk 10 minutes anyway?

Obviously also depends on where you start at Rio but the walk via Flamingo Rd is roughly 20 minutes for a fast walker. If I wasn't into walking I would just Uber to avoid being at place A with my car at place B and my room at place C.

Sorry for such a dumb question but I’ve never been to Horseshoe and will be leaving a week from Tuesday for the first time.

I’m staying there and going solo so I like to have my exact destinations in mind. I don’t like surprises when I’m driving in unfamiliar locations so I was using Google Earth street view to try to find the entrance for the valet but I’m having a hard time finding it.

On Google Earth, it seems construction was going on and I don’t know if it still is. I’m guessing it’s from the transition from Bally’s to Horseshoe but I’m not sure.

So how do you get to the hotel valet? It looks like there’s an entrance off Flamingo but then another angle looks like Las Vegas Blvd. How do I get there and is the hotel valet pretty crazy right now with WSOP going on?

Thanks

I'm not walking when my car is right there. Even if I want to take that single walk, it constrains me once I'm there. What if I want to go to South Point? I have to walk back to Rio first.

Unless it's been moved, valet is right in front of the hotel entrance, old school. You are right on both counts, re:street access. Turn in off the Strip, or off Flamingo. If you know that the parking garage is down a narrow slit alley, then you can see where to go when you turn off the street. Go real slow, down the narrow alley, then up the steep driveway into the garage. Using valet is much easier because you don't have to schlep your luggage all the way from the parking garage. The bad side is when picking up from valet, it takes awhile because the garage is so far away. Tip accordingly.
