Tropicana was going to be replaced (or completely remodeled) anyway after the Bally's purchase.
While the property is technically still on the Strip, there aren't any hotels further South on the East side of Las Vegas Blvd., at least not until Dream Las Vegas will be completed. They stopped working on that because of financial issues recently.
