if you've never been to Valley of Fire I'd say it's worth checking out once. There are red rocks at the Valley of Fire of course but that's where the similarities end to Red Rock Canyon. Lots of this around:
in addition there are a couple of interesting hikes you can take, strange-looking rock formations and petrified logs to see. sometimes they film car commercials there which is interesting to observe - they filmed an Audi commercial when I was there about 5 years ago. coming back you can drive back along North Shore Road in the Lake Mead Recreation area (stop at Echo Bay and walk around there are some nice views there) to make a full afternoon or day of it.
