As I say, my main aim is to get around to seeing as many poker rooms as possible and to enjoy lots of variety so a central "base" is essential for me. Would something like Bill's or Bally's be a LOT better for this purpose than, say, The Bellagio or are the distances between casinos so small and equal that this doesn't really matter? (As I say, I'm now realising that my walking will have to be done at night.)

Once again, thanks in advance.
Any of those casinos are fine as far as distance to other places. If you really want to avoid walking and don't really care how much you pay for your hotel, Bellagio does have the tram to Aria so you barely even have to go outside.

With a bit of orientation, you can keep large chunks of that walk to being inside.
You can actually get there being inside and only going out for ped. bridges except for FOrum Shops to to mirage (which isnt very far anyway)

You can get from Monte Carlo to the B all indoors, cross the ped bridge from the B to Caesars (optional detour to see ballys), go through caesars and the forum shops, come out at the mirage tram to TI,leave TI and cross the ped bridge to the V. Go through the V and the Pallazzo, leave the pallazzo through the North entrance, walk through the garden to the S. enterence to the wynn (v. short walk) then go through wynn to encore.

Spoken like a Vegas pro.

My preferred route though is starting at the cab stand at Monte Carlo and ending at Encore five minutes later.

This definitely has the advantage of speed and comfort (though i personally enjoy the walk), especially during the summer. But the stated goal was "seeing as many poker rooms as possible"... for a vegas first-timer its not a bad trip to make.to get to see many of the big hotels.

Very true.

I'd recommend doing the hotel crawl after dark though. It'll still be 100 degrees but without the sun, which makes all the difference.

For someone looking to play VP perfectly, go to www.zamzone.com and get their WinPoker software. It has a training mode that will show you the perfect play for every VP game.

I prefer DDB and my GF learned JoB. I haven't paid for a room at a CET property in 10+ years and get generous food comps. What to keep in mind is that while playing, you are getting "free drinks" as well.

I've hit 4 royals and multiple quad A's etc... which is near even in the long run, but definitely +EV in comps, especially if you like to get your drunk on.

Another quick note is Harrah's has a credit card that you get 1 tier point for every dollar spent. My electricity provider gives me 1 air mile on AA for every dollar spent. So I obviously pay all my bills with the CC because this also prevents your points from expiring.

1)Is there any chance to just go to vegas and get a room rate at ARIA or WYNN without any reservations (WSOP dates)?
2)Are the room rates worth it or is it just better to get an appartment for a month?
3) Where should I look for appartments on the strip?

If i want to book for Aria, i can choose max 14night.
Is it possible to stay longer ? can you get better rates if you stay longer ?

Edit:
Also should i get like a aria clubcard or something ?
i plan to play poker but not sure how much, so dont think i apply for poker room deal or anything like that.

I have been to Vegas many different times of the year and I cannot imagine walking a lot outside in August. But if you insist on walking, take a bottle of water with you.

you know that round about right in front of one of THE ONLY entrances exits to the costco/gas station parking lot? three people decided to go head to head to head in the middle of it.... there must have been 500 cars trying to get in and out of the parking lot. Inside the costco wasn't much better that day

Newb question about wiring money:

I am going out to Vegas and want to wire say 10-20k out there to a casino I am staying at during WSOP. Will I have full access to that 10-20k and be able to get it in cash or cash it out and be able to use it to buy into tournaments at RIO/Venetian etc or is that money somewhat restricted to the hotel I wire it to?

Maybe. Which probably isnt the answer you are looking for.

There are a bunch of horror stories about people wiring money to the cage and not being able to get it for anything except gambling at the casino. There are also people who report having had no problems at all..

From your location, it appears that youre american. Why would you wire the money as opposed to cash, TC's?

TC's = traveler's checks?

Sigh I dunno not crazy about 20k in cash on me, plus feel like I'd get hassled at my bank about that (but probably not the case?). Yes American thanks for the help, obviously don't wanna end up in that doomsday scenario.

Edit: I'm guessing bottom line is simplest thing would be to suck it up and just carry the cash?

Yeah, TCs are travelers checks, which you should be able to convert to cash easily. They have the pretty significant advantage of being protected against loss/theft.

At the end of the day, i think carrying cash/TCs is the way thats least likely to end up in a hassle. Either that or open an account at a bank that has branches in vegas.

Yeah, easiest is to find a Bank of America or Wells Fargo and open an account. I think there's a Wells Fargo branch in the Vegas airport.

Need a cheap room for July 3rd, Hooters or Riviera? Never been to Hooters, and only time I stayed at Riviera was the free room promo that somehow got me placed in the Monaco tower, so I imagine I'd have to $20 trick my way into that this time, if possible. Both are about the same price. FWIW, I'll be playing the $3/$6 10-game mix at IP most of the night, so Hooters might have the advantage being close to the MGM monorail.

I just need a bit of re-assurance before booking The Bellagio and have three quick questions:

1. Is the fee for the internet fully included in the resort fees or will they sneak in an extra cost for hours logged on?

2. Is the internet connection any good from the guest rooms?

3. Do they provide a safe that can accommodate a laptop?

Thanks in advance.

Actually, I've had second thoughts about Bellagio and am considering Harrah's instead but, still, any info on the above is still appreciated. Is Harrah's a good choice though?

After researching All Vegas Poker, I've come up with what seems like the best twenty poker rooms to visit along the central and south strip. They are in general order from the south as you walk north:

1. Mandalay Bay - SW
2. Luxor - SW
3. Excalibur - SW
4. Tropicana - SE
5. MGM Grand - SE
6. Monte Carlo - SW
7. Aria - W
8. Planet Hollywood - E
9. Bally's - E
10. The Bellagio - W
11. Ceasar's Palace - W
12. Bill's Gamblin' Hall - E
13. Flamingo - E
14. O'Shea's - E
15. Imperial Palce - E
16. Harrah's - E
17. Mirage -NW
18. The Venetian - NE
19. Treasure Island - NW
20. Wynn - NE

Obviously as someone who's never been, I'm relying on other peoples' reviews. Any definite no-nos? Any I've missed?

you need to break that down by east and west sides of the street...

Apologies for the questions coming thick and fast but new queries keep popping up as I'm doing my research. I'll make this the last question (for a while at least):

I've just noticed on expedia that many of the hotels, including Harrah's, Flamingo and Bill's charge a $100 deposit per day! So this means I have to hand over a $1000 deposit for a 10 day trip!!?? To me, it sounds a bit harsh that you have to take an extra $1000 with you just to pay a deposit on a 10 day stay!

Can this please be confirmed?

Also, if this is the case, could I ask for increments of $100 back, from the staff, as each day passes?

Thanks, once again, in advance.

Not 100% sure but I'd imagine you can put a Credit Card down to cover "incidentals" for the trip and you shouldn't need a deposit. Now if you don't have access to a Credit Card you may be somewhat out of luck.
