I have many years with over 1800 logged hours in the seat and a max of 2150 hours logged. It takes focus and discipline to crank out that many hours of winning poker, especially when you are running bad which happens to everyone. Its damn hard to go in there and get your head kicked in day after day and play your personal best.
Exactly. Poker is not like a normal job, where you go through the motions or sit around and do nothing and still get paid. In poker, you have to be mentally focused and one step ahead of your opponents at all times. Honestly 30/hrs week is pretty mentally exhausting for me.

I remember many years ago, at a local bar with a friend and there was a UPS driver that was a reg there and he would always come in after his shift in uniform.

During the holiday brutal season where they have to work like 12 hour days, or as long as it takes to deliver everything in the truck that day, he would come in like 8pm and look like absolute death. lol

Does El Diesel watch any other vloggers like Neeme, Owen, Rampage, Boski, etc.? I’m assuming no but I wonder what he thinks of them and it seems like a better use of time than rewatching stuff he saw before.

And they have helpers with them during the holiday season. I did it two years in a row a decade ago.

Yeah but he was never a guest star in any of those like he was in the classic Trooper episode “Wednesday on the Strip”. You know, the one where he wanders down to the strip around 3 pm, rambles on about what garbage food he wants to shove down his pie hole, eventually finds his way into a poker game, takes 4 coffee breaks in 3 hours, books a $42 win then calls it a night.

A buddy of mine has done it since 1996. In 2013 he started doing it full time. I'm surprised his body never broke down. He says a lot of guys come to work there in really good shape and their body starts to break down after about a year of it. It's tough work.

  3. After working 20 hrs/week at your part time job, grind another 40 hours at 1/2

Conspicuously missing? "Be good at poker". "Win money at poker". "How to get better and win more at poker". It's insane.

Over under on El Diesel complete mental breakdown and channel cancellation?
And the ups facility is on MLK Blvd. So, without a car just bike there at 4 am every morning. That sounds like a sound plan to me.

And it's not like that in a typical job?

Chris Rock says "if you're on MLK anywhere, there's some violence going down." Yeah I wouldn't ride a bike on MLK at that time of morning.

Excuse me,are you trying to be stupid or what? I am doing an honest try of explaining this to you,and all i get is snarky oneliners in return.

Go do it yourself if you dont believe me or other posters. Go log 2500-3000 hours of livepoker 2-3 years in a row and then see how you feel about your quality of life.

Having a regular job can be soul sucking too, and there are definitely some very negative people in a lot of different jobs, but it is a huge deal to know that at least you get paid. Even at McDonald’s you’re getting that check if you put in the work. And the more hours you work the more money you get.

In poker you can put in extra work, get your ass kicked and have less money to show for it.

I remember a reg on 2+2 that was a limit player, went pro with a really positive attitude, and later had a 6 month breakeven stretch and was miserable. It changed him. I didn’t like reading his posts because he always seemed negative and pissed off.

People that have succeeded in poker have done it; punks that fade out and have excuses can not do it.

And this is why I set the bar so high for being a pro poker player (10/20+ blinds NL). Because if its even somewhat close to a normal living wage at normal working hours, the soul sucking nature of sitting with degenerate gamblers all day in combination with the high level of mental acuity needed at all times will crush you. Pro poker needs to be sort of thing where you get rich relatively quick and do something else (ideally entrepreneurial given you have all this money) with your life. You guys saying 5/10 is good enough have no clue how many confident pro's have gotten chewed out of the Commerce 5/10 or Bellagio 5/10, like no idea. And these guys usually come in with a very chipper attitude and put a decent amount of work in to their game.

Then we got Diesel who lives in fantasy land where 1/3 is good enough lol

Nah, the $100 or so he makes from YouTube each month is probably a significant portion of his total income. He's probably hoping he will get to Troopers status one day, that's why he holds Trooper in such high esteem.

And no way he gets in the ballpark of 3000 hrs a year. He would be lucky to get 2000. I get the sense hes hardly put in any hrs while in California. Although on the plus side it's allowed him to re-watch 300 episodes of the Trooper in the last month, so thats like 10 a day. Brilliant use of his time. He recommends all his viewers do the same thing for both his channel and Troopers LMAO

Bc he's demented and actually thinks he's super successful and an expert on many topics. It's really fascinating actually.

But for a normal human being what he's doing would be torture after a month or two.

As squid face said, el diesel doesnt put in the major volume like he pretends, his best year besides last year was 2,077 hours i believe, and he passed it lsat year but he also pretended in one of his first vlogs that he was going to play 3k hours or something, that was his projection given his projected income. Playing live poker that much is brutal, doing it for 14 an hour is even more brutal. The goal in your first year of playing poker in my opinion would be to learn as much as you can so that you dont have to play 1-2 or 2-5 at all, you have to get up to where the rake doenst eat you up, whether thats high stakes online or time raked games live. Its very hard to win a lot when youre paying 15bb/100 online or 4bbs on a single pot at live 1-2 between bad beat jackpot, tip, rake. It really adds up quickly.

Very surprised rampage would be scammed like that, its truly an idiot tax that he is paying, i hope he learns his lesson with that one. Thats akin to joining an MLM scheme as a junior in high school like that vemma verve drink that was popular for a minute where they let kids drive bmws

As much as Diesel/Rice says he's a high volume grinder, imagine how much time he spends going to room to room and waiting on the list before getting into the next table. Wonder if he ever considers that time might be better spent not moving rooms so much.

I mean if he wants to play with a new group of tablemates, he can just table change in the same room. Of course the real reason why he room changes if to stay under the radar as much as possible as his nitty OMC style of play is so easy to recognize and even recs will stop paying him off.
