Doesn't El Diesel gross sub $42K a year.
He says he won't have to worry about money again. Doesn't he make minimum wage right now?

Played the WSOP event 1: Casino Employees tournament. Tracked every single hand and put it in a vlog.

In case you guys were wondering what the dealer bracelet event was like. (Actually both my tables were just full of dealer nits)

I'm beginning to think el Diesel is getting severely underestimated around here.

He's very disciplined, patient, detail oriented, risk-averse, and frugal. These are Ben Franklin Poor Richards traits of steady wealth accumulation. He plays super tight-aggressive and table selects games where almost all of his wins come from value bets and raises, and almost none of his won pots came from bluffs. He admits to having experimented with LAG for 8 straight months years ago and he didn't like it.

He may already have saved and invested a good amount. He is most likely a F.I.R.E. poker pro. A pure tortoise but I've said this before: He will easily be more successful at poker than 80 percent of all poker vloggers. And financially, he will also beat 80% of them in net worth in 12 years time.

Based on a cumulative watching of all of his videos, it seems like the method that he is using now comes at the tail end of a lot of experimentation of other stuff like playing LAG in cash games whee in 8 months of doing it he didn't earn that much more, lots of 1 table SNGs, grinding online.

Let's see how things unfold.

His strengths in poker are volume, table selecting and promos. His strengths in YT are stats, expenses, and story telling.

el Diesel has knowingly and deliberately substituted maximizing hourly EV with maximizing number of hours volume. In other words, make 40% less than maximum per hour (by playing super-tight to where most of the pots won come from value bets and raises and almost none come from bluffs and semi-bluffs - paired with extreme table selection of games that make this the most likely scenario) but be able to play much more hours (because tighter means fewer hands played and therefore less concentration/focus and less overall mental fatigue) to compensate for the hourly EV sacrifice.

I know Andrew Neeme has said that he has made 10 BB per hour but Negreanu and Deeb have both said 5 to 7 is what's more realistic at low stakes. If so, then el Diesel's hourly EV sacrifice (14 bucks bucks per hour averaged between 1-2 and 1-3) ain't even much. And he does it with much less swings and stress.

Also, as mentioned earlier, by playing super tight, el Diesel lessens mental energy expenditure and hence is able to maximize volume of hours.

p.s. el Diesel has revealed a good template for maximizing YEARLY winnings at 1-2 and 1-3 full time play.

He’s playing for promos..basically

Can someone breakdown what these promos are?

Example promo at ballys:
play 15 hours in a week to qualify for a free roll

top 9 get $500
next 9 $300
next 9 $200
next 9 $100

Prize pool is 9900. it averages anywhere from 50-100 players. Lets say 80 people are in... freeroll value is $120ish... (usually a $10 add-on so lets just say its worth like $100.)

So 15 hours to get $100 = $6.66 value added to your hourly (not including freeroll playing hours).

Sharp eye! Not sure if you're the same person who pointed this out in the YouTube comments, but this is what I said there:

I can't decide what I love most about this:

1) That I, too, noticed this while reviewing the footage ("THERE'S my ace that would've given me the boat - I NEEDED THAT CARD!")

OR...

2) That had I even noticed this in the moment, it would be pretty messed up had I tried to cheat in seeing all the cards my opponent couldn't have

OR...

...and I think this is the funniest...

3) That given my camera was all the way down on the felt, if I wanted to see what my camera saw, I'd have had to press my face all the way down against the table, which would've been worth it just for the reactions from everyone else.

Regrets, I've had a few.

Another great video, especially ending with that final hand. Been there, done that. Makes you want to scream.
Not to jump to conclusions, but "The Lonely Bachelor" probably applies to the villain in that hand, too - certainly if he uses his I-just-cracked-your-aces-with-garbage-I'm-a-golden-god face in his Tinder profile pic.

Glad you enjoyed the new episode. And that last hand. A win's a win's a win.

That wasn't me in the comments but if others on YT noticed it too then you'll probably want to position your phone so that it doesn't happen again, or let the dealer know to be more careful with the deck. It's clear you wouldn't use it to cheat but that may not stop someone from accusing you esp if they get pissy after losing a hand.

I know that "personable" and "fun to be with" may not square up with what you think of 2022-Trooper but I'm telling you, that was a fun table.

I know its now a thing with him in terms of never working for the man again but I think he would clean up as a dealer again. His fans would follow him around to play wherever he was dealing and he'd be great with new players.
I also played at his table at the Linq. He would be making much more dealing and holding a TT once or twice a week.

Neeme claims he made $50 per hour at 2-5. el Diesel will probably make 60% of that for $30 per hour. That would be his poker live cash games ceiling for life. Unless, he studies hard, he's not gonna make it at 5-10 or higher. At least not for more than $15 per hour which is approximately his 1-3 earn.

I guess el Diesel is a F.I.R.E. poker pro. The tortoise beat the hare in the end. He beats 80% of all poker vloggers at poker once the next 10 years have passed.
Delusional. Thinks he can retire based on poker. Rake, inflation, road costs, and competition increase while stakes remain the same.

So it seems el Diesel is content with playing poker on his own terms while his investment account grows. Whenever it hits that 280k mark, he will then be chilling

I mean, if he’s enjoying sitting and grinding all the time while his investments grow isn’t the worst idea. I just started watching his vlogs recently and kept thinking, that seems so boring lol..but when you think about it, he’s just waiting for his account to grow. If he was just playing for the sake of being ok with the $14 hourly, that may not be the best use of anyone’s time. I also couldn’t imagine only playing on 1-3 tables that’s a pass from me

Given the recent inflation surge, paired with tighter games and higher rake, it won't be very long until its nearly impossible to make a living at 1/3 NL. Working at a mcdonalds would be better than grinding low stakes live. I dealt this past WSOP and during that time, dealers make $40+/hr and I still feel like its a tough living. No idea why anyone would grind 1/3 at $14/hr when any poker player with a week of practice could get a dealing job that pays at least double with no down variance.

I mean, if he has plans of grinding 1/3 to move up to 2/5 and 5/10+ then it makes sense. But 10,000 hours in at 1/3 and it seems doubtful.

No chance he makes 1 bb per hour at 5-10 even if he improves 50%. But with good table selection, he can probably make 30 bucks per hour at 2-5, which would be his ceiling as a cash games live grinder in this lifetime.

He seems to be a F.I.R.E. poker pro. He'll probably make retirement in 12 years going up and down 1-2 and 2-5, staying frugal, and investing his money.

El Diesel new challenge is eating on $25/week max, only using comps earned during that week and no cooking in the room.

Curious, does he tip dealers during play ?

I think he put a video out about that awhile ago. Pretty sure he tips $1/hand on most pots as long as they are not HU take down on flop type hands, and on those if he gets several of them in a down he will tip $1 when dealer is getting up.

Why is the race to the bottom a common theme for poker vlogs? Living on less than food stamps can't be fun or get you laid.

But that requires working at McDonalds. I dont know who Diesel is but does he live a trooper lifestyle? Just sleep in all day on an air mattress, pile of clothes on the floor, half eaten slice of pizza on a paper plate uncovered in the fridge, gas station donuts for breakfast kinda guy? Maybe he just enjoys doing ****all and 1/3 lets him skate by in life?

His whole thing is being as frugal as he can.... almost like a challenge to keep expenses as low as possible at all times. For most people living in this manner for an extended period would be intolerable as they would be denied all the fine things in life. There would be very little joy and everything would be geared around survival. However el diesel seems to be genuinely happy and whatever anyone else thinks about his way of being it does seem to make him content. And for that he should be admired!
