When The Trooper was first discovered by 2+2, it was an orgy of the highest degree.

Believe it or not.

Dumb question for those of you who think Brad Owens and Andrew Nemee were making a fortune with MUGs, why have they stopped?

(I know, I know COVID, that the excuse for everything)

You honestly think it's not covid related? I thought they were going to do mugs full time if they could

Didn't Andrew say in a recent video that Brad caught covid and that put a halt to things. Not sure what dates he said.

Honestly surprised hes managed a little upswing here, just been a steady grind up for him, good for him. It is so douchey when people slow roll, gotta be mentally tough though and not let old crochety people get to you

It was bike king who bet the 1100 on sunday night football, he had several bets for a couple hundred up to that bet i think was the biggest, it was a while ago right when he started his latest vegas journey.

If the $1100 bet was the season that just finished, it wasn't the Washington Redskins, it was and now is the Washington Football Team. lol

Negreanu and Hellmuth should have done MUGs every week. 100k+/week and free hotel rooms easy.

But, once heard immunity kicks in, watch out!

In fact why would they be playing these time consuming tourneys with incredible levels of stress against the best players in the world when they could be printing money?

How can you only play 1 session in a week? You live on the strip. Even if you're lazy it's so easy to go play a couple hours, win a buy-in or two, then go Trooper around the strip a bit and find another game to play in for a little, win another buyin or two. Rinse repeat. I really don't understand how you can go an entire week on the strip and just play one session. You don't even have to like poker to play more than that.
I had a rough week. Insomnia + errands. I'm on the grind now

So Brad and Andrew want to open an bar in Las Vegas, where they'd be lucky to even survive and if they do, struggle mightily for years. But they already can make Doctor money with zero risk?

Weird!

i saw that, he quite clearly was talking about a group partnership

so it was at a minimum 3 people, possibly more, since these ventures are so high risk, they primary owners often solicit multiple silent partners

i don't know about their situations, but it's not implausible they were just investing in very small pieces and/or getting a discount or even free equity in exchange for promoting the bar in their vlogs, hosting meetups there, etc

but unless they are complete idiots who hate money, their ownership stake definitely combines to less thant 50% given that neither will be actively running the place and wouldn't know how to anyway

I haven’t been watching his recent videos so maybe they have less poker in them. And you’re right that a lot of his videos are boring. I think his best videos are when he loses a bunch, and discusses at least 2 or 3 hands he badly botched. He takes different lines than anyone here would and offers some very odd reasoning for those lines. I watch those videos when someone mentions them here.

Sometimes I’ll be surprised when another vlogger takes an unexpected line, but even then it usually makes much more sense.

That’s why I said before it would be interesting to see someone post his hands and his thought process in the live low stakes NL forum on 2+2. The reactions would be interesting, especially if the person posting the hands tries to act overly confident like he does in his videos. His hands are so strange that some have even accused him of trolling his audience (I personally doubt it and think his ego is too big to do that).

Too bad he won’t put up any coaching videos.

Meh, it’s true that everyone gets criticism at some point, but I think most people still have a positive opinion about some of the vloggers. Also, some people could read 20 positive comments about themselves, one negative comment and the negative comment will affect them more than any other comment.

His new vlog is titled "Can I play poker tourneys in Hokkaido and Okinawa and make it back within 24 hrs?" Okinawa and Hokkaido are kind of the Japanese equivalents of Hawaii and Alaska, in that they were both added to Japan last and are tropical and Arctic respectively. Though they're not as far away as Hawaii/Alaska and Hokkaido isn't as arctic as Alaska.

We are fast forwarding to March now. His Vegas trip took place back in December 2020. Hiroki visits Yokosawa and wakes him up saying "I want to eat McDonalds for breakfast!" Then Hiroki takes him to the airport. Yokosawa says he doesn't know where they are going. Hiroki tells him the plan for today is to play in tourneys in Okinawa and Hokkaido and to get back to Tokyo within 24 hrs. Hiroki notes that if Yokosawa does well in the tourneys then he might not be able to make it back in time and jokingly tells him to try to lose.

They arrive in Okinawa. They started at 4pm in Tokyo. It's 7pm in Okinawa. Hiroki says they have a red eye to catch to get to Hokkaido. Yokosawa wants to get something to eat but Hiroki says they don't have enough time. They call the casino and ask when the tourney will start and they have enough time, so they stop to eat at an Okinawa style pork restaurant.

They arrive at the amusement casino. Hiroki says they only have 50 minutes to play. Yokosawa flips with KQ and wins with quads. Yokosawa doesn't want to leave and they decide to take a morning flight to Hokkaido. He makes it to the final table but busts after getting short stacked when his flopped straight loses to a rivered full house. He finishes in 6th place out of 30.

They arrive at the hotel but can only sleep for 3 hrs before they need to catch their flight. They make a layaway in Fukuoka (a city in southern Japan) and have a meal. The recurring joke in the vlog is that Yokosawa loves to eat and is overweight.

They arrive in Hokkaido at noon and will play in an afternoon tourney. They need to catch the 3pm flight back to make it in time. It's cold in Hokkaido. They make their way to Sapporo (the biggest city in Hokkaido). They eat on the train on the way to Sapporo.

They arrive in Susukino (the entertainment/red light district of Sapporo). He arrives at the amusement casino and the tourney begins. Hiroki plays too. Yokosawa bluffs all in on the river with K high and loses. He reenters and jokes that it's his first entry. Hiroki reminds him about the flight.

They show a Hiroki hand. He gets it all in with a boat vs top pair. Yokosawa gets it all in with the nuts. Hiroki announces they have run out of time and won't be able to make it back within the 24 hr time limit. They decide that if he wins, then it still counts as within the rules. Yokosawa gets it all in with 77 on the final table bubble and loses. Hiroki gets it all in with T8 and loses. They got 9th and 10th out of 50 players.

Having missed the 24 hr deadline, they plan on taking the last flight back to Tokyo. They take a taxi to the train station and barely make it to the train to the airport. They speculate that the poker gods had them both lose right after one another at the right time so they could barely make it to the train to make the last flight home.

They arrive in Tokyo at 11:08pm. Their 24 hr plan ended up being a 31 hr plan. They talk about how the plan was worth it even though they failed and met a lot of great people and how the play styles were different in both areas. He sums it up as poker is a great people game and Hiroki makes fun of how cliched his sum up of their trip was. The vlog ends as Yokosawa goes to the bathroom.

No updates on his amusement casino. It was supposed to open last month. Japan has barely started doing vaccinations and they are saying the "4th wave" of COVID is hitting now so that may be a factor. This one was more of a lifestyle vlog than a gambling vlog since they didn't do any gambling.

Even if these job opportunities are real for him, don't most high level jobs look at your social media these days before hiring? How do you think that would work for him?

He doesn't want to make 100k+ and live somewhere with walls anyway. He wants to live in his car and degen.

Views are more important (and someone like Boski that puts up a lot of videos might get more views overall) but I thought this was interesting. Some of the vloggers haven’t put up a video in a while.

I don't get the Brad Owen thing either. His vlogs are good, don't get me wrong. But he has a fairly low key personality and they're all basically the same thing of "I visited x casino, played a bunch of hands, had a great time, see you next time on the vlog!"

Yet he's crushing it in terms of subs and views. Is it SEO? Click-baity thumbnails and vlog titles? Paid clicks and subs? Networking or advertising? Or maybe the poker gods have decided to smile upon him and make lots of people like his channel and vlogs.

I think the worldwide ranking of poker channels according to subs is:

1) Yokosawa - 574k
2) Daniel Negraneau - 515k (Dnegs has been putting out a lot of videos recently and streaming too)
3) Brad Owen - 393k
4) Doug Polk - 314k
5) Andrew Neeme - 155k

If you want to count business/corporate channels:

Live at the Bike - 169k
PokerStars - 1.03 million
FuryTV - 178k
